Chicco Next2Me - floppy side safe?

So with DS1, three years ago, I was lent a Next2Me. I remember the shallow side which butts up against the adult mattress having maybe a strip of plastic in it or similar to make it stiff.

I’ve been lent a newer model by a friend for DS2 and this strip isn’t stiff any more, it seems to just have foam inside. However now it seems floppy and just leans into the crib. The cover has been washed a few times, I’m not sure if that’s caused the issue or whether it’s just the design now? I assume it’s been changed after the baby deaths in the NCT Bednest where the baby’s head got hooked over a half up side??

Anyway, my baby seems determined to wiggle as close to my mattress as possible and bury his face into that shallow side! I’ve woken up to find it flipped over his face a few times. Does anyone else Next2Me do this? I don’t recall having this issue at all with the older model.

My new Next2Me does it too and I was wythensame thing. Thankfully my 9 week old is staying away from it so far, but I do worry about it.

Bump. Still using the crib but this is still bothering me.

We have a next to me too and I worry about the floppy side. Thankfully DS doesn’t get too close to it but I’d rather there be nothing there than this stupid strip of fabric. Unfortunately we need to keep using it as DS is only 15 weeks so won’t be going in his own room yet and we can’t fit a cot next to my side of the bed.

I thought the same thing with ours, DS always seems to shuffle towards that side as well.

I have this problem and because of it I can't stand the next to me now and would never recommend one. I have to have the side up. The issue is the rocking feet cause a slight tilt in the mattress so baby always always ends up right against that side. Luckily it is mesh with the side up so breathable but it's not good. I googled it and so many other people say the same. I've tried towels under the wooden board to even out the tilt but nothing works!

If something is falling over your baby's face when he is sleeping you need to stop using it immediately, regardless of what others are doing. Either put the side up or get something else.
Did you get a new mattress for it? It's recommended that you shouldn't share mattresses between babies. If it's got a bit of a dip or is a little compressed on one side it could be causing the baby to fall more to one side of the crib.

I had this!

I contacted Chicco who told me it was fine and that it wasn’t a hazard to baby

I didn’t feel confident, so I used nappy pins to clip it to the sheet of my mattress (which was held tight with clips under the bed, can you tell I’m a bit of a worrier) to hold it up

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 08/02/2021 00:36

Yes, I bought a new mattress for it, which is nice and firm so I don’t think that’s the issue.

I thought about pinning it up, but wondered if tension might rip the sheets. Might try it though.

I’ve decided to pay out for the Next2Me Air cover. It’s still got the stupid foam edge, although I’m hoping it might not be so floppy on a new cover? (Ours has been washed a few times). But baby keeps butting his face up against the edge to sleep and it’s making me twitchy. It seems to have the same risk of rebreathing as a bumper? DS1 never slept like that so it wasn’t a concern, but DS2 always wriggled himself to an edge. If I don’t like the Air cover, I’ll give up on the Next2Me and just move him into his wooden cot earlier than planned.

I have the next2me magic. The side slides up and down with no floppy bit

We didn't like that the others had that
