DS ate a whole sweet potato

DS is 8 months and on 2 solid meals plus 4 milk feeds a day. Yesterday he ate a whole sweet potato (puréed) for lunch. Does that seem like a lot to you for an 8 month baby? I mean, sweet potatoes are quite large...!

I freeze portions for my almost 8 month old.

Sweet potato mash he currently has frozen with some lamb ( leftover from Xmas day). Also has pumpkin, lentils and courgette. Cauliflower, cheese and potatoes. Black bean, red peppers and rice.

All the frozen dishes I make up from some leftover elements of our main meals, then I just add extra veg/ cheese. Saves making full separate meals or new ones daily.

Thanks everyone for all the helpful comments!

The sweet potato puréed down quite small, but obviously there was a whole potato in there..! I’d say it was about 20 spoonfuls?!

@Caspianberg how do you serve the lamb out of interest - puréed or in chunks?

I’ve tried to do all fresh so far but it’s a lot of cooking!

Mine just ate the same as DH & I. Obviously if we were having something like a spicy curry I would give the babies something else and a few foods were slightly adapted for them but the majority of the time they are the same as us.

@newmum234 - puréed. He hasn’t any teeth yet and struggles to eat anything like that whole. I do fish just flaked and he can manage that.

DS did this at 6 months, exactly four days after we startef weaning, so we moved from 2 to 3 meals a day and he naturally decreased his portion sizes. He did feed himself though. If you are still feeding your DS it’s possible he’s full but doesn’t recognise it until he’s overfull - skip the purees and finger foods and see if that slows him down.

and try fingerfoods

Give him more finger food. He can learn about textures and practice his hand eye coordination
