I know it really does no harm but it is infuriating when he has lovely cords and jeans in his drawer lying unworn

How old is he?

I used to get this every season change with DS. When it turned warm, I fought him into shorts and sandals. When it turned cold I fought him back into shoes, socks and long trousers.

Now he's a teenager he will only wear long trousers with flip flops, whatever the weather.

he's 5

wears shorts all yr round

I do insist on warm upper layers .I suppose peer pressure will eventually kick in.

Mine's 9 and wears shorts all winter. He's tough as old boots and never feels the cold, though I do get disapproving looks from some mums at the school gates on frosty mornings.

Then in the summer he dresses for the arctic.

I don't fight it; he can work out for himself if he's uncomfortable.
