Newborn laughing in sleep?

My DS is two weeks old today. A few times over the last couple of days, and three times today, it appears as if he laughs in his sleep.

He smiles and then makes a high pitched, breathy 'heh-heh-heh' noise. Seeing as he's too young to even smile let alone laugh what on Earth is he doing?

Whatever it is it's bloody cute.

Has your small baby laughed in their sleep?

DS was doing this from birth and learned how to smile on demand really quickly - 3-4 weeks. It’s totally normal.

Yup, totally normal. My twins do it at the same time as each sometimes, which makes me giggle.

Mine did this! He did his first smile at 4 weeks so quite 'early' hes a happy little chap. Always laughing and smiling now.

Aw, yes I remember mine doing that. Very cute.

My 6 week old does that. Also don’t believe they’re too little to smile. My baby has smiled (not just wind, a proper 2 way interaction with me) from being around 3 weeks old. The HV told me they know now that some babies can social smile much earlier. Either way all newborn smiles (asleep or awake) are so bloody cute. Enjoy your little one 😊

Mine did that! It was so adorable and I couldn't wait to hear her laugh at something for real. She's still very much a giggler at 3 and a happy little girl.

My 3 all did that, its very cute. We called it the sleep chuckle.

Oh thus is so lovely to hear, it's really cheered me up.

Here are some pictures of him smiling/looking contentedly milk drunk, have yet to catch the laugh on video but this morning his whole body was shaking with it!

That is a very beautiful baby you have there!

Oh he’s utterly adorable, congratulations.
I love baby sleep giggles, I still love it now they’re older too! My 10 yr old was giggling his head of while asleep last night Grin
