Snufflebabe on under twos?

RMarieClaire · 20/12/2020 20:41

LG is 18 months. She had a mild cold but at night it turns into a horrible cough. Tonight I put some snuffle babe on her chest, but it hasn't helped. And I just read that you should never put vapor rub on an under 2. Gah. Anyone know if snufflebabe is ok to use? Their website is verrrry vague!

Any other tips for a night cough much appreciated!

Snufflebabe should be ok. Vicks is not for under 2s

Boots says ok from 3 months. Doesnt the label or box tell you the age guide?

RMarieClaire · 20/12/2020 21:23

Thanks guys. Sounds like it's vicks that's a problem not Snufflebabe. Just being anxious!

As I said snufflebabe is ok as its made for babies. Vicks is not for under 2s

Your DD is 18 months, what do you think would magically happen at age 2 which wouldn't make it safe to use now? I'm all for following guidelines, but just apply some common sense Confused

I used to work in a pharmacy, vicks shouldn't be used (though often is) because it has menthol in it and that can v rarely cause irritation in the airways and increased mucus production, and in babies some of them can struggle to breathe as a result (extremely rare). If baby is really suffering, putting the balm on their feet instead of their chest can help (I know it sounds crazy but somehow it does seem to work) and a baby saline rinse for the nose works wonders and provides v quick relief x

Maria1990 · 20/12/2020 22:45

Just realised I didn't explain: if you saline rinse the nose 1-2 hours before nighttime it will remove any secretions that would otherwise run down the back of the throat and cause the nighttime cough (this is usually the cause for a nighttime cough in sick little ones).

It literally says 3 months and over on the jar.

MotherPiglet · 21/12/2020 19:00

I'm sure snufflebabe used to be 3 months. It should say on the jar

dementedpixie · 21/12/2020 19:15

Snufflebabe is 3 months.
Vicks rub is 2 years

Megan2018 · 21/12/2020 19:17

I have been using snufflebabe since 3 months as per the label. In conjunction with calpol plug in and saline spray. DD 15 months.
