Newborn overnight sleep in a carrycot?

We're going to bubble with my brother for Christmas and staying with him for 2 nights. We'll be bringing our then 4 week old with us. We have a baby jogger with a carrycot that says it can be used for occasional overnight sleep but she's not slept in it for more than a nap before. Do we take the risk that she'll sleep all night in it or get a travel cot just in case? I'm really aware that if she doesn't sleep in it no shops will be open to buy an alternative. What does everyone else do for occasional overnights with a newborn?

There's no guarantee she would sleep in a travel cot either. I would imagine the carrycot that she is familiar with would be better than a completely new bed. What does she normally sleep in at home?

I'd take that and if she doesn't sleep, put her in with you.

If you want to get a travel cot though, you could get one now and get her used to it.

Your brothers house will smell different to her so it might be worth using a T-shirt DH has worn as the sheet. Hopefully it will help her to settle

I used the uppababy carrycot for all sleeps with DS until he grew out of it. But it’s designed for overnight sleeps and it clearly says so (it has a special mattress and a flap that opens underneath to allow for airflow). Is the Baby Jogger’s carrycot designed for overnights? If not then just put her on the changemat on the bed next to you (srip off all bedding and only keep a small pillow for you).

I cant see how it's more of a risk than a travel cot she hasnt slept in. Providing it's for overnight sleeps like you say I would go for it or have a trial run at home. My baby slept in the Uppababy carrycot for the first 4-5 weeks as he felt more snug than in the next to the bed style crib.

What does she sleep in now? If you're driving I'd be tempted to pack the Moses basket/next2me - I'd probably forgo the buggy if needs be and use a sling but I'm all about the decent night's sleep!

If you're worried, I would just get a travel cot - COVID will eventually end and you will hopefully get use out of it until they're 2 or 3. But if it's your first trip with a newborn, boot space may be an issue 😂

Mine slept in the carrycot for first 6werks.hated the Morse basket and the cot and co sleeping. Well when l say slept still woke every few hours.mind you this was over 20years ago so maybe advice now says no.

What does she sleep in at home, can you bring that?

Thanks everyone. She sleeps in a snuzpod at home and sleeps well but it doesn't fold down and, as we heading for Christmas, there's no room in the car for it. We'd only be bringing the buggy for the carrycot, we're not planning on going anywhere over the few days. She does nap in the carrycot so we might just bring that and hope for the best and get a travel cot in the new year when it's not so hectic!
