Sneakily dumping dummy during baby’s cold?

Advice wanted about ditching or not ditching the dummy at this stage;

Baby is 7.5m, and I’ve just taught her how to put the blasted dummy back in mouth but she won’t try it on the night, she’ll cry and I replace it (she’s sidecar/co-sleeping so it’s easy). Baby has a HORRIBLE cold and can hardly breath through her nose so I took the dummy away last night and held/rocked her through it. Had some screaming but when I caved and gave her the dummy she couldn’t breath with it in her mouth so we had to remove it....

Would you power through and ditch the dummy, or would you give it back once the cold is over as it’s such a quick soother? If you’d ditch it, what would you use as a soother?

She has bottom 2 teeth and one lower molar, so teething is coming early :(

Thanks mums for your advice

I would use this as an opportunity to get rid of it. Although NHS advice is to wean babies off dummies between 6-12 months, so you do have a bit of time!
