Baby smelly groin

Hello, have been googling but can’t find much. My 14 month old boy seems to always have a really smelly crotch area when he wakes up, sort of a BO smell. I wash him most days, and try to dry thoroughly and air it out. Is this normal? Skin is in good condition, it’s just the smell!

Could be from the nappy they've had on for a large part of the night if it's holding urine?
As long as the area is clean and skin intact with no sign of issues I wouldn't worry.

Could it be just sweat? Clean it well everytime you change the diaper. It can be tricky if your child is chubby with lots of folds

It might be worth getting a urine test or at least asking the doctor. Could be a urine infection

Thanks for the replies. He is not that chubby.. I will try cleaning a bit more thoroughly and see if that helps. Its just such a adult smell , like an armpit on the tube!

Definitely check with doc for uti etc

Id be surprised if its a UTI. That has a very distinct smell, not like BO at all (im a nurse - ive done my fair share of sniffing UTIs).

I think its probably just sweat caused by being in a nappy all night.
