What gift to get 14mo

Hi there,

I am a father to a 14month old boy. His birthday was a couple of weeks ago and received plenty of toys and games, more than enough in fact. And so he is in no need of toys for his age that he already hasn't gotten.

We have got him clothes at the minute for Christmas and all the basic Christmas essentials a boy his age needs, but I am wondering if there are any creative ideas for a Christmas present, that is something one cannot buy from a shop.

It's not about saving money for Christmas, it's more about trying to provide a gift that is special and more than just a blanket toy. I am really struggling to think of something for him, maybe something I could make or build, any tips would be most appreciated.

Thank you so much any help and advice to make this a special Christmas would be very much appreciated.

I'm not sure a 14 month old is going to appreciate the concept of a special toy and I don't want to point it out but isn't it a little late to build a special toy? My DHs family often make things fir the younger children and started months ago.

Also, if you don't want to get toys, have you thought of an annual pass to the local zoo/farm so that you can take him regularly?

An annual pass to a zoo or farm is a good idea –many toddlers love seeing animals.

I don't know what skills you have when it comes to making things or what he already has, but some ideas would be: an advent calendar (obviously not actually going to get used until next year, but could be used for many years after), a child's table and chairs, or a wagon or trolley that he can push or pull and used to cart toys around, be a car for cuddly toys, etc. Those should all be things he'll use for some time, so might be more worth it to you to make.
