Where do you LO's sleep for daytime naps?

Hi everyone,

Where do all of your LO's sleep for their daytime naps?

I have a 4 month old baby and we have a normal crib which she sleeps in upstairs at night but during the day she likes to sleep a lot on me and I can't get anything done.

I want to get her into a safe sleep space for her naps during the day but I know that travel cots, bouncers and swings are not safe for this.

I do have a carrycot on the pram but we have very limited space in the living room so it stays out in the hallway.

There's no point getting a Moses basket as she will probably have nearly outgrown this.

Any advice is appreciated Smile thank you

For DD1 she slept in the buggy in the hall way if I was lucky - mostly she only slept when I was pushing her. DD2 would only sleep in the sling.

My DS is 11 wks and I will let him sleep wherever he wants in the day as he's a total tinker when it comes to napping during the day. He fights going to sleep in the day most days.
I have his nursery all done out so I try and put him in his cot. Very hit and miss if he will stay there!
Sometimes he sleeps in his pram and sometimes in his swing chair. Right now he's conked out on me as I don't need to do anything right now, so I'll allow it, but usually I will try and put him down, as (as you said) I have stuff to do.

My 17 week old sleeps in her cot when we are home. If out and about then the pram and car suffice! Think I’m lucky she will sleep in her cot for naps by the sounds of it

My DD naps on me as its the only place she'll stay asleep. I plan my chores around the naps so when she's napping, I can just chill and watch TV.

Nomorescreentime · 07/12/2020 20:10

I used to slide out from under them and leave them on the sofa. I’d be nearby to watch out for them.

What's wrong with a travel cot?

I used me, pram, floor or travel cot for mine.

I have a 4 month old too. He naps in his snuzpod in our room where he also sleeps at night. I do still sit with him while he naps and I also get nothing done! For one nap a day he sleeps on me in the living room so that he can get a longer nap otherwise they are mostly 30 minutes. Up until a few weeks ago he napped in his pram carry cot in the living room but he settles better in his crib. I think it will be better once they get to 6 months then I'll feel better leaving him with a monitor when I need to get stuff done.

My DD slept either in her bouncer or her pram during the day Smile

Honestly mine slept in his baby Bjorn bouncer. Worked a dream and I was always there. Not a chance now though, but he does finally take all his naps in his cot.

DS1 wouldn't sleep unless moving so in the sling initially and then in a darkened pram. I had a reputation in our group of mums for being the one always pushing the pram frantically back and forth. 😂 he would also sleep in the car, the hiking backpack, anything as long as it was moving.

Dd2 won't sleep anywhere but her cot. Lockdown baby! Occasionally in the car for 1 sleep cycle if she's very tired.

mindutopia · 08/12/2020 12:56

Mine often slept in the sling or on me, in the bouncer (this fine if not every nap and you don't leave unattended), sometimes on a mat on the floor, in carrycot, or more often we were out so in the car or in the pram. I was never a daytime naps in the cot sort of parent as I didn't want to be tied to the house around a nap schedule. Often mine would sleep morning and afternoon in the car on the way somewhere.

First attached to me. Others wherever we were - the floor, the laundry basket, the car, the supermarket trolley, their pushchair.

crazychemist · 08/12/2020 14:09

Does the carry cot come out of the pram? Mine sleep in the pram sometimes and on me sometimes. Try not to worry about not getting stuff done with a 4 month old, their sleep will soon be much more predictable and you’ll be able to get things done during their naps if you want to. For now, your smell and heartbeat will keep your baby relaxed and happy, so just go with it!

Once Dd was bigger (maybe 18 months) she would nap on the sofa (she couldn’t fall off it) so I could keep an eye on her while I did things.

My 16 week old will only nap in the sling, mostly only if I keep moving. Currently pacing the living room!!
