Ridiculous reasons your toddler has had a meltdown

YakkityYakYakYak · 05/12/2020 20:42

I’m struggling with my very strong-willed 18 month old at the moment, and need to know I’m not alone.

This week I’ve had to abort two trips to M&S to buy wrapping paper. Today’s mid-shop meltdown was because I wouldn’t let her eat a ceramic apple she saw in a window display. Last week she lay on the pavement screaming cause I wouldn’t let her run in front of a bus.

Please tell me your most ridiculous toddler tantrum reasons.

they’re much less now he’s 3 but he threw some obscene tantrums!! One I remember the most is when I was trying to get him into the pram he turned into sand and then when I did eventually grasp the child he turned into a plank so I couldn’t push him into the pram! More and more people started staring at this point.. I managed to get one arm in and he flings himself out of the pram, splat on to the floor with a wail of “you pushed me” I cried when I got home but I laugh about it now Blush

YakkityYakYakYak · 07/12/2020 20:25

These are making me laugh so much. Comforting to know I’m not the only one with a tiny psycho in the house.

I was actually planning to come on here and say how well behaved she’s been for the last couple of days, but she made up for it this evening...

I was washing up after dinner and told her she couldn’t empty all the tins out of the kitchen cupboard for the third time. She got so mad that she screamed then ran over and bit me on the bum!

I ate the piece of toast he shoved in my mouth while saying "eat mummy!".

I had to make more toast for him.

My niece aged 2 had a tantrum because me and her gran wouldn't let her drive the car back from the garden centre! 🤣

Growapair · 07/12/2020 21:37

Because I flushed my poo away without letting him have a look at it.
Because I let him pull a cracker off the tree and he lost.
Because I let him pull another cracker off the tree and he won.
Because he wanted to feed his crusts to
the dog so I said he could, he cried because he wanted them back after they ate them.
Because he couldn’t find his shoes which were on the shoe rack, but wouldn’t allow me to fetch the shoes he couldn’t find from the shoe rack.
Because I wouldn’t let him stick his willy through the hole in a DVD disc.
These are all today.
And screw you to the silly twat who said 18 month old tantrums aren’t normal Grin

Zooforhouse · 07/12/2020 22:49

I ate a bit of his left over food and he wanted it back-demanding I somehow un eat it.

I couldn’t mend a banana (seems I’m not the only one to have heard this). This was the longest and loudest tantrum ever.

I disagreed when he said the dog was ‘a type of chicken’

My daughter used to turn into a plank of wood in the pushchair then I was given one with a pull at the bottom to tighten it up one-handed? My method was this insert plank into pushchair wrap straps around plank tickle the plank and pull!

DD was furious when we did some baking and had to actually put the cakes in the oven. She thought it went stir, mix, eat.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 09/12/2020 22:18

My DD always had the toddler rage with her socks. She'd take them off & then start crying because she'd taken them off & wanted them put back on. So we'd put them back on & then she'd start raging & take them off. 2 mins later she'd be raging again because she wanted them back on, rinse & repeat.
This usually happened just after tea time so I think it was a tiredness thing.
Though funnily enough she still has a sock issue at 13.
According to my DM she gets it off me as apparently I was exactly the same. I'm still sock averse now.

I lifted DS out of the pram to come inside the house.

He wanted to stay in the pram.
Strapped in.
Outside.
In the pouring rain.

Haven’t RTFT but OP needs to see the cutted up pear thread if it’s still in Classics.

I feel her pain to be honest. Who wants to wait for cake!

DD (22m) screams, cries, and throws herself on the floor when I don't let her draw on the sofa 😂

LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE · 10/12/2020 17:31

Because I won't let him have my phone/remote control/watch. Because I won't let him have the Duck loo brush thing. Because I won't let him put his hands down the loo.

I've given up with the dishwasher...

DS2 threw an epic tantrum because he couldn't walk up the wall to get a spider that was on the ceiling. He first tried it from a standing position. Then he lay on his back and when that didn't work he lay on his side with his back against the door and tried shimmying. But all to no avail.

For the benefit of Corner, I tried explaining mass and gravity to him. Then I told him he didn't have the necessary sticky pads on his feet. Eventually I said "ye cannae break the laws of physics man" and went into the kitchen for a cuppa and a giggle.*

I'm so thrilled others have broken banana issues. Even more unacceptable here is if I try giving him a tangerine in segments, it must be peeled and then given to him whole or there's hell to pay.

Today's tantrum was when he didn't want his toast soldiers, so I ate one. I regretted this instantly...

Timeturnerplease · 10/12/2020 20:43

Oh I have a gazillion of these (just turned two):

I walked up the stairs in front of her.
I gave her the cup that she wanted.
Daddy wasn’t home when we got home.
We cut some of her birthday cake for her to eat.
She wanted to watch Bing but didn’t want to watch Bing.
There isn’t really a bear in our bathroom.

loopylulu30 · 13/12/2020 10:29

My 2.5 year old screamed the house down because the butter had disappeared from his crumpet. Also had a melt down when I told him it wasn’t his birthday.

Sandsnake · 13/12/2020 10:30

My two year old had a full on tantrum that we couldn’t take a day trip to the Dead Sea. He’d seen it on Go Jetters and fancied it for the afternoon.

Springersrock · 13/12/2020 10:44

My daughter is 19 now, but 17 years later. the epic, 8 hour tantrum she threw because she didn’t want to go out is still burned into my memory.

We weren’t going out, had no plans to go out, I had told her that about a billion times.

I honestly thought I was going to lose my mind that day
