Ridiculous reasons your toddler has had a meltdown

I’m struggling with my very strong-willed 18 month old at the moment, and need to know I’m not alone.

This week I’ve had to abort two trips to M&S to buy wrapping paper. Today’s mid-shop meltdown was because I wouldn’t let her eat a ceramic apple she saw in a window display. Last week she lay on the pavement screaming cause I wouldn’t let her run in front of a bus.

Please tell me your most ridiculous toddler tantrum reasons.

@YakkityYakYakYak

Mine threw himself on the floor crying because I wouldn’t let him get in the dishwasher

Yup - we have this one a lot. Why is the inside of the dishwasher so appealing to them?!

I just let him get inside the dishwasher.

@YakkityYakYakYak

She also had a tantrum today because I wouldn’t let her squeeze a very ripe pear. She didn’t want to eat the pear, just squeeze it really hard so all the juice poured onto the carpet.

Just realised a lot of her tantrums are fruit based 😂

A lot of DS's are fruit-based too 😂 he's obsessed with dried fruit of all kinds at the moment, but I have to limit it or he gets the shits. So he flings himself down on the kitchen floor wailing 'FRUUUUUUUUUIIIIIIT' approximately 1 million times per day.

Her apple was too ripe/soft Hmm

It's absolutely normal. My 17 month old cried for about an hour the other week as I wouldn't let her lick the cheese grater.

mynameiscalypso · 05/12/2020 21:57

I wouldn't let DS play with the water in the loo.

LadyMcLadyface · 05/12/2020 21:59

Because I wouldn't let him eat the entire advent calendar...

PippinStar · 05/12/2020 22:02

I wouldn’t let him eat staples.

tinyradish · 05/12/2020 22:03

Today because I gave him my crisp that he'd asked for. Hmm

ashamedbutwanttochange · 05/12/2020 22:06

@ahhanotheryear my son will not accept that dinosaurs are extinct. I’m a liar in fact and he knows this because ‘Andy on CBeebies is with the real dinosaurs’

SomethingAboutNothing · 05/12/2020 22:09

I wouldn't let him throw himself in the (freezing cold and rather deep) stream. He absolutely couldn't swim, was about 18m old.

GrumpyHoonMain · 05/12/2020 22:09

My 12 month old had a tantrum because I wouldn’t let him stab my breast with his fork.

Chocolatechocolatechocolate · 05/12/2020 22:13

He wanted to hug a swan that was being particularly friendly and I moved him away. Always fun in the toddler world

Boozysoozy1 · 05/12/2020 22:14

My just turned 3 DS had a tantrum last week because his bedroom isn’t a bus stop 😂

ExCwmbranDweller · 05/12/2020 22:17

Because he didn't want 'some' chocolate, oh no, I WANT LOADS. He was two-ish. First massive tantrum. I actually filmed it which was no easy task back in 2004. He's a super tall adult now, very funny and kind but when I think of him as a young child he's there doing the W sit, in his lovely Next outfit - stripy cardi - screaming I WANT LOADS over and over in the greatest rage ever possible.

YakkityYakYakYak · 05/12/2020 22:21

My just turned 3 DS had a tantrum last week because his bedroom isn’t a bus stop 😂

Haha, that one really made me laugh. Bless him.

Because despite asking for 5 little ducks and YouTube and getting5 little ducks on YouTube, she actually wanted baby sharks.

Turns out after 20 minutes of tantrum she cannot say shark so now uses duck as a general description for any YouTube nursery rhymes I miss the 5 ducks now

Shayisgreat · 05/12/2020 22:23

My 2 year old DS had a tantrum in the street today because he dropped his toy on the ground. He didn't want to pick it up and he didn't want to leave it there and he didn't want me to move it either. He also didn't want to walk and he wouldn't let me carry him. So he cried in the street while I hugged him until he stopped. It was a noisy 5 minutes and about 3 houses away from home so all my neighbours heard.

Mulhollandmagoo · 05/12/2020 22:45

@Corner13

18 months is young for that kind of behaviour. How are you responding to these ‘tantrums’?
Is it? My 18mo tantrums! She doesn't like it at all when I won't let her in the washing machine 🙄 it's exhausting! Today she thre a piece of fish finger on the floor and then immediately wanted that very bit back, even though there was plenty on her plate and you'd have thought the world had ended!
BabyYoda · 05/12/2020 22:58

I have 3 toddlers, I am not ok.

Goslowlysideways · 05/12/2020 22:59

I wouldn't let her drive.

Disappointedkoala · 05/12/2020 23:08

@Goslowlysideways

I wouldn't let her drive.
I have this at least once a week.
Goslowlysideways · 05/12/2020 23:09

I wouldn't give her a turn being the eldest. Her sister always got to be the biggest.
Exhausting.
Now she is very reasonable!

Goslowlysideways · 05/12/2020 23:10

@Disappointedkoala Well it's about time you let them!

mogtheexcellent · 05/12/2020 23:10

Because I was on the toilet and she didnt want me to do a poo. I instagrammed her tearful face. While I did a poo. Grin

beingbulliedatwork · 05/12/2020 23:11

It mostly involves bananas.
