8 week old just won't sleep during the day

I don't know wether to skit be grateful but my 8 week old just won't nap during the day! She'll fall asleep on my arms and cry when I put her down and then she'll happily just play for a bit.

She will sleep throughout the night anywhere between 8 and 12 hours

I'm worried she's not getting enough sleep in total. Should I be worried?

If you have an 8 week old who sleeps through the night I wouldn’t change a thing! It’s normal for an 8 week old to only sleep when been held, or in a sling or a moving pram.

My 6 week old daughter only sleeps if being held, and wakes up anywhere between 4 and 6 times a night... if she was sleeping through I wouldn't change a thing!!

I think if shes falling asleep in your arms she might be tired? Mine is 8 weeks and will wake when you put her down - so she sleeps on me for all naps. 12 hrs is an unusually long time to go without food at that age

@OhToBeASeahorse she does have quite a few feeds during the day and has been consistently putting on weight since birth so I'm not too concerned about her sleeping through. I'm just more worried about her not getting enough sleep as she does fall asleep in my arms but wakes up when put down. But weirdly enough she will sleep in her next to me crib all night without any issues, it's so odd

I'm very jealous! If her weight gain is good I'd say crack on!

DD1 would sleep for a max 40 minutes during the day when tiny unless we were in the car or I was pounding the streets. She was a crap sleeper at night and I worried that she wasn't getting enough sleep. She's now 5 and it's not done her any harm (still doesn't sleep past 6.30!).

If you are worried about it I thoroughly recommend the little ones app. Out of our nct group of 7 babies the 3 that use it sleep considerably better than the others

Mine started with the nap refusal at around five weeks - from then on they had to be forced with a blacked out buggy and loud white noise. Wouldn’t chill out with us downstairs of an evening, had to be ‘put to bed’ early to stop her screaming. She never ever napped more than a half hour block from then on, has never ‘spontaneously’ fallen asleep anywhere except the car and no longer naps at all at just turned two. She does sleep 6.30pm to 5am though, and goes to bed like a dream.

Nursery describe her as ‘exceptionally alert’. I describe her as the cause of my grey hairs.

I think some babies, like adults, need much less sleep than others and that’s just the way they’re built. If they’re happy and healthy then their way probably suits them.

Very tiring for the parents though!
