DS can’t sit up unsupported - starting to worry

My DS is 7.5 months and can’t sit up on his own. If I hold him round the waist he’s fine, but if I let go he falls over. He’s not rolling yet either - he rolls onto his sides but not fully from back to front or visa versa. I’m starting to get concerned that he’s behind in his development and that there’s something wrong The health visitor suggested moving his toys further away from him on his mat so they’re just out of reach and he has to move to get them. But if I do that he doesn’t make much of an effort to reach them - and eventually just cries out of boredom because he’s got nothing to play with! What am I meant to do?!

My ds is 7 months (yesterday). He has been rolling since 3 months and can commando crawl all over the place.
He still can’t sit up unsupported though. Like you he sits fine supported but flops to one side if not.
He seems fine and I’m not worried.

My ds didn't sit up till 11 months, he commando pulled himself around but just never sat. I was thinking the worst but Health visitors were adamant he'd be ok. Then one day he just did it, he stood up just after that then there was no stopping him! He's bigger than me and a sporty teenager now so it's not held him back.

Wait. That's what you need to do. This is most likely something that time will solve.

First thing you should not do is to compare with other mums you know. Do what the health visitor says and concentrate on his happiness rather than 'progress'. He is an individual and you are not a sheep. I bet he does other things anyway. Some babies don't walk at one year, some of them take a whole lot longer. They are all walking and the rest when they are 16, more's the pity :)

DS didn’t sit up solidly until 8 months. He was off commando crawling at 6 months. He just preferred to be horizontal than vertical!

Equally, if he is behind a bit, this happened to a friend’s baby and he was referred to a physio. After some strengthening exercises, he caught up very quickly and now you’d never know there was any delay.

Thanks @FizzingWhizzbee123. The health visitor says it’s too soon to refer at the moment. They will review him again at the 8 month check in about a month’s time.
