When to move toddler from cot to bed.

Due to three house moves since March, our 16m old has been sleeping in a travel cot next to our bed. She can now climb out of it if it is pushed up against our bed. If it is further away, she gets one leg up and it won't be long before she is get into out. I am wondering people started putting their chn into a toddler bed?

We used cot bed from about 8 months to 3. It's a decent sized cot where you can remove the bars once they start trying to climb out.

Great - thanks!

We moved DD just before she turned 2 but if she’d started climbing I’d do it earlier

When they start to climb out.

We had a cot bed and removed the sides when #1 was 2y and #2 was 16m.

Actually dc1 was nearer 4 when they moved straight from cot bed to normal single bed. You can get bed guards to put on the side of a cot bed when you take the bars off!

My 2.5 year old has never tried to climb out of hers and could easily if she tried.

As soon as they try to climb out, it's time. Don't risk any accidents. Just make sure the room is baby proof and you have a gate on the door. 16 months is still very young.

My DD went in to a normal single bed the month she turned two. No choice really as her baby brother needed the cot. She's slept so much better since though

My ds is 20 months abs I'm thinking of doing the same soon. I'm desperate to see the back of the cot

My 16 month old twins have been in single size floor beds with rails since they were 10 months.

My DS went from a cot to a standard single bed with bed guard just before he turned 2. Not because of climbing, but because we needed the cot for baby DD.

My DS moved to a single bed around 22 months as we needed the cot. He climbed out around 16m but we were able to lower the cot base right to the ground and that bought us the extra 6 months. A travel cot wouldn’t have contained him. His room was basically a cell though until he was about 3 so that he didn’t injure himself by climbing furniture.

My DD we took the side off the cot around 2.5 due to potty training. She never tried to climb out and slept in travel cots while on holiday up to age 3 and never climbed out by herself even though she probably could.
