Asking for counselling post birth

Hello. Does anyone have experience of going to the GP post birth and asking for counselling please? Will the GP just refer you straight away or do you need a diagnosis of a condition? Do social services automatically get involved? Thank you in advance.

No SS don't get involved so please don't let that be a concern at all. It's a bit of an old wives' take and I think it's very sad that it still perpetuates as it could discourage Women from seeking the help they deserve.

Please do speak to your GP.

If you think that your depression is stemming from the birth, it's worth taking to the Birth Trauma Association as its run by Women who have also experienced it.

If you think you have Post Natal Illness, I'd speak to the Pandas Foundation.

You might find the Antenatal/Postnatal Depression board on MN useful too.

With help you can get through this Thanks
