1yr old suddenly HATES bath time

Hi,

DS is 13 months, up until now since about 4 months old he's loved his bath. We make it fun, he listens to music, plays, loves us washing his hair.

He has a bath daily (doctor approves as it helps with his eczema) he has incredibly long thick hair (and thanks to lockdown is desperate for a haircut) so he does need his hair washing as there's all kinds of things stuck to it after nursery.

We normally do baths in the morning, he's started refusing to sit (no nappy rash or anything and temperature is fine)

He even climbed out this morning, I've tried playing games, music, getting in the bath with him, trying a shower.

It's impossible, it was so hard this morning I don't even know if I managed to rinse all the shampoo out of his hair he was so distraught.

He even bit himself in frustration and that's when I thought enough is enough we will do strip washes. They obviously get the job done but that can't go on forever.

Is this normal? Can anyone advise? I've tried bedtime baths but he ends up so upset before bed I can't bare it.

Dad gets involved too, has the same experience.

*he is teething lately and having huge growth spurts so his overall behaviour isn't great he's very frustrated, clingy and generally not a happy chap at all times. But bath time is an extreme.

If he's that grumpy I'd stop the baths for a couple of days and try him with a dose of ibruprofen to see if that improves his mood. Sounds like he's in discomfort and it's all a bit much for him at the moment Smile

My DS went off baths at around 10 months for a few weeks. No reason for it and then he just started liking them again. No change between it. I even tried bathing with him to try and make him more comfortable but it made no difference so we just did it every few ate to lessen the stress on everyone until
He went back to liking them.

DD did this at 14 months out of nowhere. Temporarily getting rid of any bubbles helped us x
