Ditching the dummy

Looking to ditch the dummy that my 12 month old has for sleep. I know it's not recommended past 12 months to continue dummy use, but it also really affects his sleep as he wakes for them and often loses them halfway through the night.

Have tried multiple dummies in the cot and also glow in the dark ones.

Really keen to get rid but he's so very vocal and has mastered the tantrum as of late! Don't want to wait until he's old enough to reason with/send to Santa etc

Any tips from those who have managed it at a similar age?

Tbh at that age they're too young to do the dummy fairy thing, so I'd just take it away and brace yourself for a few bad days. Is there a favourite toy or comforter you could give instead?

We ditched at around 13 months, we just put them in the bin and braced ourselves for a few bad night.

It was fine, a little bit unsettled for a few nights and day naps and that was it .

@Ohalrightthen Really tried with the comforters but not really bothered about them.

@Wale90 We tried once at six months to go cold turkey, day naps were fine but at bedtime he screamed for hours. I know I need to just bite the bullet and go for it. Not sure how to stop one sleep association without creating another
