Baby hasn’t had a poo for 5 days !?

Hi everyone,

My little girl is 4 months old and was EBF up until a couple of weeks ago when we started to introduce about 2/3oz of formula on a night time to settle her. Since then I’ve noticed a change in her poo. She used to go every 2 days or 3 at most. But now she is going much longer and tomorrow will be day 5 with no sign of any poo! She doesn’t seem constipated as such as she’s perfectly happy in herself and not straining at all. She’s passing lots of wind aswell.

I’ve tried all the usual things which help her go - bicycle legs, tummy massage, a warm bath etc but nothing seems to be happening at the moment! Sad

I think I will give the doctor a ring tomorrow but just wondered if anyone had any advice. I’m thinking it could be her body getting used to something new with the formula but I don’t know if five days could be a problem Hmm

Any advice would be great Smile

I remember this happening with my daughter, suddenly went from everyday to about a week without doing a poo. I remember being stressed and trying all the things you mentioned but she did go eventually and was fine. No harm in chatting to GP but wouldn't stress too much if she seems fine otherwise.

Mine did this too about that age. All was fine

Our little grandson is like this. he has gone as long as 10 days without a poo!

Our daughter had regular contact with the GP and they kept saying there was nothing wrong because he was gaining weight and clearly thriving. They did eventually prescribe something to make him go but daughter stopped bothering with it in the end as it seemed to give him a tummy ache and wind.

He's now on solids and things have got much better. If your baby seems well in every other respect I wouldn't worry.

We went 10 days too! Took him to doctors they weren't concerned. Tried baby massage, cold boiled water, teaspoon of orange juice nothing really worked but when it came boy did it come!!! Be prepared
