Newborn cot set up

My baby came home from the hospital yesterday and despite sleeping amazing in her hospital cot and her bouncer now she’s home, she won’t sleep in her cot or Moses basket. So was basically awake all night last night. Has anyone else had this and been able to replicate the set up in the hospital once home? The cot has a clear side so it’s not being able to see us that’s the issue. Any suggestions most welcome, I don’t want to ditch the cot too soon (it’s a bedside cozzi bambini one). Thanks guys!

That's exactly how my baby was. Unfortunately babies give you false hope that they will sleep well when you get home from hospital!! Usually on their first night or two they are really tired after birth and sleep loads. After this they suddenly become more awake (hence not sleeping when you got home). My daughter is three weeks old now and still haven't managed to get her to sleep in her side cot 😭
So so so so tired.

Yeah this is nothing to do with the cot, this is just babies - sorry 😬. Totally normal for them to be sleepy for the first day or two, lull you in to a false sense of security then all hell breaks loose once you’re home. It will pass, but may need to just ride it out for now.

Is she swaddled? That can help. Also, is she breastfeeding? If so, get her on the Boob as much as possible to stimulate your milk production.

Brand new newborn babies don't sleep through the night, my firstborn slept through the night at 6 months, and my second was 2 /12 years old before he slept straight through.

All babies are different, but I'm saying this to reassure you that this is normal newborn behaviour.

It's early days and the best thing you can do is try and relax and go with the flow, don't put too much expectation or pressure on yourself (there's enough of that already on us Mums!)

i ended up stuffing her crib sheet down my top for the day, then putting it on the mattress that night. She slept a little better, but it too time. She still sleeps best in our bed on my side of the mattress

We spent the first ten days or so taking it in turns to hold the baby while the other person slept before swapping and repeating. It was the only way!

It's a huge shock how much the baby craves being held but they've been inside u for 9 months and it's normal for them to want to be close to u always. It feels crap when you thought the baby would just sleep as they did in hospital (when they are tired from the birth and haven't properly 'woken up' yet) but it really does pass.

Good luck and make sure u stock up on coffee and prioritise carefully for the next few months e.g basic housework only to maximise time for rest. At 5 weeks my baby gradually started to sleep not on me for longer stints

Google the 4th trimester. I’m afraid it’s completely normal.

Btw it’s not safe for babies to sleep in bouncers.

Baby being a baby unfortunately! They often seem to have a decent first night or two (amongst my friendship group) because they're knackered from being born and it all goes downhill from there unfortunately. They can't see much at that stage and every thing is all blurry so it's not the side of the cot that's to blame. Try to nap when you can and take shifts with your partner if you can.

Congrats on the new baby! I feel your exhaustion - our baby literally wouldn’t be put down anywhere for the first six weeks. My husband and I did shifts holding him all night 🤦‍♀️ I got through a lot of box sets. Then I gradually started to introduce a nighttime routine and he began to sleep for an hour or two at a time in the next to me. It will get better - he’s now 8 months and sleeps for 11 hours in his cot overnight. Try not to put too much pressure on things right now if you can!
