Is it rude?

Is it rude to ask people visiting your home to take their shoes off? And equally, is it rude to take your shoes off in other peoples homes? What are your thoughts?

Nope - perfectly normal for people to ask you to take shoes off. Who wants mud and yuck over the floor?

I prefer to remove my shoes in others home for the same reason - even if they say it's ok.

All my DC know to take off their shoes when they come home, or in other people's houses. I also remove my shoes when visiting others. I see it as a common courtesy.

It's rude NOT to take your shoes off, or at least ask if they'd like you to

I automatically take my shoes off in my house or anyone elses! Especially as I have a toddler who is always playing and rolling around on the floor! I know someone who is the opposite, they absolutely do not want their guests taking their shoes off in their home! I take them off anyway, but she always gets annoyed with me!!! I just think, why would you want filth and germs trapsed around your home... we tread in allsorts without realising!!!

No; I always do it at peoples houses and if people don’t then I say do you mind as the baby crawls around on the floor

MrGorksy · 13/11/2020 19:56

I pretty much always take my shoes off when I visit someone. If I haven't visited before I'll see if they're wearing shoes and then decide or ask.

I don't ask people to take their shoes off here because we have dogs and they might get hairy socks but friends generally do as most of them have pets too.

I take my shoes off inside too but in this instance I would respect her request. It’s her home. Why do you still insist on ignoring her and taking them off? Maybe she hates feet.

@SockDrawer
I understand your point... but I always have socks on or bring my slippers from home!! Never bare foot!!
