8 month old sleep training question-

My 8mo has always slept in the bed, we have decided to put him in his cot now as we end up coming to bed early with him, and also don't have much space left in the bed when he's in it! We have a cot at the end of our bed, we don't have room for him to have his own bedroom yet. He will eventually share with his older brother.

Tonight I bathed, fed, read a book and put him in his cot. He was upset, but I stayed next to him and comforted him until he fell asleep. He's been asleep in his cot for a few hours.

When he next wakes, how do I know if I ought to feed him or not? He is breast fed, and usually stirs a few times in the night in the bed and feeds back to sleep. If he wakes and I pick him up and feed him, do I put him back in the cot and let him cry and get worked up again? I don't like the idea of sleep training- can't help but get upset when he cries Sad

If he feeds back to sleep then why wouldn’t you just let him fall asleep feeding then gently try to place him back in the cot asleep?

Because as soon as he's in the cot he's wide awake and crying again

Are you trying to put him in straight after he’s fallen asleep or are you waiting 10 minutes/doing the reflex test? It’s probably that he’s not fully deeply asleep.
