Toddler food texture advice

Hi all

I have a 19 month old boy who eats really well but is a bit funny about the texture of some foods. The main one is meat but he also won’t eat pasta unless chopped really small and covered in sauce. He just holds rice in his mouth and won’t swallow it. Eats everything else.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can encourage him to get over his texture issues? He’s fine otherwise and he’ll eat meat in soup or slow cooked in stews so it’s not a case of not liking it.

Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated!

Do you ever do messy play with him? Maybe giving him the chance to explore a lot of different textures in a non-eating environment will help?

Set him up on a plastic mat with some containers...and some spoons and sieves. Put things like rice...cooked and uncooked in a tub....also some flour....dough........anything you can think of and let him play with them. Help him explore.....show him stirring etc.

Or you can choose only foodstuffs...things he can safely taste...ice...grated carrots...sauces...
