Toddler diarrhoea HELP!!!!

Hi

We are currently toilet training my three year old son who is finally showing an interest in getting out of nappies. He is dry all night every night and is doing "No 1's" on the toilet frequently. The problem we have is that he doesn't sense he needs a poo and when it comes boy does it! His diet is in our opinion very healthy and having seen the doctor she has said it is toddler diarrhoea and to increase the fibre and fat in his diet.

We have done this and have also vastly reduced the amount of juice and squash but there doesn't seem to be any progress. We insisted a sample of his poo be tested which it was and is normal but every poo he does is like a river. The transit time from mouth to exit is not very long.

He is vibrant happy and full of life but as long as this continues toilet training is almost impossible. Can anyone help with any proven methods of help??? I'm running out of ideas or is it just a waiting game??

my cousins little boy had this, whilst he was in nappies and she went to docs when she was trying to potty train as it was a nightmare. they eventually linked it to a milk intollerance they stopped all milk and it got better, i'm sorry i don't know how they found that out but maybe something to ask about - our ds has a milk intollerance too, he will grow out of it but cutting all cows milk has made his nappies better (the poo staying in for one!) we only found it by trial and error

good luck

We also had this, HV diagnosed toddler diarrhoea but turned out to be a wheat intolerance.
