Hi all,
I'm a first time mum to a 7 month old girl. I have to attend a funeral this week which is really far away and I would need to spend the night in a hotel beforehand. I don't want to bring my daughter because of the covid risk and also because the funeral and wake are during her nap times and I can imagine she will be a noisy handful throughout. Unfortunately my partner is a key worker so cannot come with me to help look after her, so I was planning to leave her with her grandma for 36 hours while I travel to the funeral. The problem is she is still having 4 breastfeeds a day so while I'm away her grandma will have to give her these by bottle (she is very good with a bottle so that's not an issue). My fear is that in this time she will "forget" how to breastfeed. I've never spent more than a couple of hours away from her so I'm really worried about how this might impact her. I've heard horror stories of babies refusing the breast after separation from their mother. She's always been an excellent breastfeeder so I would be devastated if this separation meant our breastfeeding journey had to come to an end. Does anyone have any experience or advice? Many thanks!
