my son doesn't want to learn

My son chose some lace up school shoes, but he doesn't want to learn to tie them up. Should I just keep tying them for him? He didn't want to watch me tie them this morning, and when I ask him to have a go he intentionally does it wrong.

how old is he?

did he realise when choosing the shoes that he would have to tie them?

can you replace the laces with the no-tie elastic ones to make life easier? Or do you really want him to learn the skill of tying laces?

He's 10 but he's always had velcro shoes, we bought some football boots with laces at the same time, he realized he would have to learn to tie them but he isn't wanting to. I could buy him some more velcro shoes, its probably the best option .

Are they those plasticky laces? They can be a pain to tie and pull tight. If yes, replace the laces with softer cottony ones - they are a lot easier to tie up.

Is it an actual issue, such as with fine motor skills, or pure reluctance? Ds is dyspraxic and learnt eventually by making up a silly rhyme to take him through step by step.

Or buy elastic/locklaces so he can still slip them on.

I hadn't thought of elastic laces, that's a great idea thank you!!
