teething 2nd molars - fever?

Hi all,

My little guy just turned 2 and the last few days i've noticed him chewing his fingers again and he's been a bit clingy. But last night his temp shot up to 38.5 and he had an incredibly unsettled night, up every hour crying. I've given him Calpol every four hours and this morning I bought some ibuprofen, which he's now had.

I am sure it is his teeth. But everything I am reading says that fever and teething don't go hand in hand. I've spoken to his GP this morning and she was as helpful as a chocolate teapot.

He doesn't seem unwell otherwise (we both had CV19 in March and he was very different to now). No runny nose, no cough or runny tummy/sickness. He's drinking and he's eaten a few things, including a banana. His cheeks and ears are scarlet and I can feel both bottom second molar's swollen under his gum's.

So, I guess I'm asking if your little one's were the same with the molar's coming in? I just need some reassurance before my anxiety goes off the charts. I bloody hate then they are ill and can't communicate anything to you.

Have you taken his temperature recently? It’s not unusual for 2 year olds to have temperatures seemly randomly.

It went up to 39.4 through the night from 38.5 and right now after the ibuprofen he's down at 38.3. His torso and neck don't feel so warm but his face is boiling.

He's started badly grinding his front teeth in the last hour. I think the wee soul is in agony. Oh, the joys of kids.

Hi OP. Did this fever end up being teething? My LG has had a fever for a few days and I can see her molar coming through. Doc checked her and said no infections. Thanks.
