DS can’t put feet in mouth

He holds his feet all the time when lying on his changing mat, but has never pulled them all the way to his mouth. I’ve heard other people talk about how their babies suck their toes, so am a bit worried that DS doesn’t/can’t do this. He’s just over 6 months old. What do you think?

I don’t think it’s something you should be worrying about

Abouttimemum · 30/10/2020 13:25

I don’t think DS 18 months has ever put his feet in his mouth, so I wouldn’t worry.

Sjl479 · 30/10/2020 13:41

Can’t remember any of my 3 doing this when babies. My 6 year old was doing it the other day...

My DS never did this either, he was never really active, can't stop him moving now though!

lillylemons · 30/10/2020 13:51

none of mine did this.

Disappointedkoala · 30/10/2020 13:52

Mine did it. It was disgusting. Constantly soggy socks.

Changethetoner · 30/10/2020 13:54

Maybe yoga just isn't his thing. Relax, as long as he's moving and wriggling I'm sure it's fine.

greenemerald · 30/10/2020 13:58

Mine is the same age and I was thinking about this other day! He doesn't do it either. Seems like it's fine as PP have said

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 30/10/2020 14:18

Mine is 7 months and just seems content with reaching over and attempting to pull his socks off. Im not worried.

Itmaybeus · 30/10/2020 14:18

3 dc only one was a toe/sock succer. It's nothing to worry about.

FreeAcorns · 30/10/2020 14:19

My 3yo literally never put her feet in her mouth. She's totally fine. My 1yo lives with his feet in his mouth. They are all different!

ramblingsonthego · 30/10/2020 15:23

There has never been a milestone of putting feet in mouth.

Its just something some babies do. One of mine did, one didn't.

Kitkat05 · 30/10/2020 15:53

Hi OP. Was exactly in the same position. She first put her toe in mouth at 8 months and that was it. She never like it 😂

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 30/10/2020 16:08

Neither of mine did it. Both fine years later (DS2 had to be checked for hip dysplasia due to positioning, everything fine).

Mind you, mine didn't do the weeing when the nappy came off or pooing in the bath, or various other things I was warned about.. perhaps I just have fussy children!

newmum234 · 30/10/2020 18:54

Okay thanks everyone - sounds like it’s nothing to worry about!

I'm sure he's fine. I don't think putting toes in mouth comes under an essential life skill. It's also probably not very hygienic so perhaps it's actually an advantage that he can't.

JamminDoughnuts · 30/10/2020 19:09

i remember ds did this at 8 months and the HV said it wasnt something they could do forever, just a stage.

MidnightHangingTree · 30/10/2020 19:10

Not that it matters but I'm in my 20s and can still put my toes in my mouth. Everyone's different Grin

JaJaDingDong · 30/10/2020 19:14

Perhaps he's got short legs.
All the best people have short legs.

Mine discovered his feet first - holding them, playing with his socks. Then maybe around 5/6 weeks after that they started going in his mouth.
