Fifteen years old and still no period? Getting very worried.

I've name changed for this.
My daughter was 15 in September, she still hasn't started her periods. She's fit and in good health, always has been. She has some signs of puberty, very small boobs (these started to develop about two years ago) little bit greasy skin. She was very skinny until about 18 months ago, she's now just normal slim, she's very tall though, about 5ft10/5ft11, not particularly sporty. She quite private so I know won't like me talking to her about it, I had planned to raise it in January if she still hasn't started though.
I'm starting to get quite worried, I think I might see if I can speak to her doctor next week. The doctor doesn't know her (or me) or any of my children, just because they haven't needed to see a doctor since they were babies.
Please help me be less worried!

I got my period just before turning 16. It does happen. Late starter.

blowinahoolie · 02/03/2021 20:16

Yep, same as yourself bleachblondemum. I was very thin even though I ate loads. Just couldn't put weight on.

@ludlowstreet

Question for the late starters please - Did you go to the doctor and if so what happened?

Going to get in the bath, back later. Thank you all so much for the replies.

Yes, DM took me to the GP. He said there are two options: leave it to nature or start hormone treatment to kick-start periods. I said to leave it to nature. DM respected my wishes thankfully!
lambo88 · 02/03/2021 20:34

I started my periods at 15 xx

blowinahoolie · 02/03/2021 20:49

Doesn't matter if it's a zombie thread. Could be a relevant topic to someone else going through similar worries....

OP's daughter probably has already started her periods by now anyway 😂

Itsjustaride8w737 · 02/03/2021 20:54

Could she be pregnant op?

Itsjustaride8w737 · 02/03/2021 20:54

Ah zombie thread 😂

A friend of mine started at 16 and a few months, she was the last in our class (this is 30 years ago). She was very slim, no breast buds even, but quite short. Her mum took her to the doctor prior to her starting, but they were unconcerned.

Supersimkin2 · 02/03/2021 20:59

Normal but worth checking with GP cos no one wants to discover an issue aged 35.

B1rthis · 02/03/2021 21:01

Contact your school nursing team to rule out Turners Syndrome.

Sadsiblingatsea · 02/03/2021 21:03

I was 15 when I started, also quite skinny.

Annamaywong25 · 02/03/2021 21:03

My two dd's were 16 and 17, I was 13. I wouldn't worry too much. She's probably just a late developer.

HairyChin · 02/03/2021 21:04

I was almost 16

Chill out

It'll happen

earthyfire · 02/03/2021 21:07

I was 15 when I started. I remember the nurse at school telling me that I was under weight and that I wouldn't start my periods if I didn't put on weight!

Nenevalleykayaker · 02/03/2021 21:18

I was that height at that age, and naturally very skinny. I didn’t start until I Was 15. (Paying for it now, still going at 52! )
If your daughter isn’t too underweight it’s quite normal, I shouldn’t worry.

LemonMeringueThreePointOneFour · 02/03/2021 21:23

Most people with any major differences in sex development know about it as children.

It's quite possible for a DSD not to become apparent until puberty.

Please don't take her to the doctor yet

If there is something that requires treatment it's better to start investigations sooner rather than later. If she is not producing oestrogen then she is at risk of developing osteoporosis.

It could be Swyer's Syndrome, especially with you not being tall.

LemonMeringueThreePointOneFour · 02/03/2021 21:26

Very unlikely to be Turner's if she's 5'10".

Also this is not something a school nurse will diagnose - you'd probably need to see a paediatrician, an endocrinologist and a gynaecologist.

TheByngster · 02/03/2021 21:29

Early 20s fro me. PCOS. My husband’s daughter was 16, all other caper kicked in when she was 13 (hairy legs, armpits etc)

ZoeCM · 02/03/2021 21:32

There was a girl in my class who started her period around the age of 15.

JufusMum · 02/03/2021 21:51

My daughter is 19 in July, still no period. I’m quite worried but she’s not remotely bothered and refuses to see the doctor. She’s slim, sporty, ladies on DH side very slim and no boobs and she looks the same.

babbaloushka · 02/03/2021 21:55

I was 17

mxmxm · 03/03/2021 20:14

I didn’t start till 16 and was very skinny and short. if she’s been noticeably underweight during puberty (aka as you said she was up until 18 months ago) that can have an effect and if her boobs haven’t grown much either it sounds more like she’s a late developer. obviously I’m not a doctor and that’s all just from personal experience!

pretty sure if it was Turner’s she wouldn’t be tall and she’d definitely have noticeable physical characteristics?

nilambi · 03/03/2021 22:20

I was 19, my friend 21 !
I was told not to worry as some people are just later than others
For context, I was a skinny stick without any boobs, butt or any other hormonal symptoms. And at 36 Im still a flat chested stick lol

my friend on the other hand was curvy with huge boobs and all types of other hormonal stuff like acne etc but no period until 21

I wouldnt worry as long as she is otherwise healthy
