21month old seperation anxiety

Okay, so I wouldn't say my 21month old has seperation anxiety in every scenario - she will happily play with family members whilst I am in another room or if I have popped out for a while. BUT if I am at home alone with her , she followers me around everywhere and cries if I don't pick her up or play with her . This makes every day household jobs quite challenging . I.e, making her lunch or dinner - which are jobs that have to be done for her own sake , but she insists on me holding her or taking me away from the kitchen to play.

Anyone else have a similar 21month old? Is this developmental? Is it something I am doing wrong- do I need to be a bit more firm with her? I have tried explaining that if she goes and plays nicely on her own, I'll come join her when I'm done . That sometimes works but sometimes doesn't !!! Lol

Any suggestions are welcomed :)

I think it's pretty normal.
Reassuring children and not insisting on seperation leads to better bonded kids in the longer run.
Maybe get her to do things alongside side you rather than expect her to play elsewhere. If you're cooking, maybe she can 'help' with something. My DD was very good at washing up...(bowl of water and some plastic cups)
It's a phase and does pass.
