Just wondering what time everyone sends their 8-9 year old to bed at the weekend? Debating this with my husband and we have very different opinions on when our son should be in bed!

8 yr olds- 7.30 on Friday as they have football on sat morn. 8.15 tonight.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 24/10/2020 22:14

8pm. Maybe 8.30 if we are watching a film. They are 9&7.

InTheLongGrass · 24/10/2020 22:16

Same as during the week!
8.30pm at 9, 8.15pm (I think!) At 8.
Wakes between 6.30am and 7am without fail.

By 8 on a school night (as in lights out at 8, usually in bed by 7.30), by 8.30 at weekends but with lights on to read til 9 if they fancy.

BefuddledPerson · 24/10/2020 22:19

Was upstairs around 7:15 in primary, but read til around 8. Mine always needed plenty of sleep.

40notfabulous · 24/10/2020 22:21

And can you tell me about 6 year old bedtimes!

Tatum1234 · 24/10/2020 22:21

9pm weekends, 8.30pm school nights (up at 7.30am). Will lie in on a weekend.

Bowerbird5 · 24/10/2020 22:23

In bed at 7:30 pm unless swimming was late class and I read to them, then they read until 8 pm lights out and if still awake they were allowed a story tape( audio) and allowed up until 9pm either Friday or Saturday.

Meredusoleil · 24/10/2020 22:25

8pm school nights. 8.30pm if no school.

elQuintoConyo · 24/10/2020 23:07

School nights in bed at 9, reading until 9.30.

Weekends around 10. Maybe later.

School is 5 mins away, so we get up at 8/8.15.

Mon/Wed is sports, he gets home at 7.30/7.45.

Tuesday is basketball after school (on the school grounds) he gets home at 5.45.

Shower, tablet, Lego, dinner. School doesn't give homework.

thunderandsunshine01 · 24/10/2020 23:11

8 on a school night, 7 if ‘grounded’. Weekends are dependant on what we are doing really, 9ish on a typical weekend. If she’s got mates round for a sleepover then there isn’t really a set bedtime

Hollyhead · 24/10/2020 23:13

9pm all nights he has definitely suddenly needed less sleep this year. 9pm-7am is still 10 hours.

My 5 year old is 8pm - 7am

xyzandabc · 24/10/2020 23:14

I'd say 8.30 is reasonable if eldest or only child but certainly in this house, it depends which child you are.

When the eldest was 8, we also had a 6 and 3 yr old so the whole upstairs bath teeth story bed thing started at 7/7.15 to be in bed by 8.

Now the youngest is 8, the other 2 are 11 and 13. Sometimes were still eating dinner at 8pm. We rarely eat before 7. Upstairs times is around 9 and youngest asleep by around 9.30.

Lockdownfatigue · 24/10/2020 23:17

7.30 on school night, about 9 weekends and holidays.

Six year old the same but maybe earlier weekends, maybe 8? Does have some 9pm weekends though.

My eldest kept the sane bedtime roughly but we tend to play games or watch a film in the evening at weekends now.

Lockdownfatigue · 24/10/2020 23:17

Yes to it depending which child you are!

Just-10 year old DD went at about 10:45pm tonight. That’s a little later than usual. During Term time bedtime is between 9pm and 9:30pm depending on activities. She’s never had a bedtime that started with a 7. Think the earliest was about 8:30pm when she was about 5.

7 and 8 year olds here..

School - they go up at 7:30 but can read or play quietly until 8:30
They both wake up around 7

Weekend - they go up around 8 and watch TV until they nod off. If their TV is still on at 10:30, I'll turn it off.
They sleep until 8 on a weekend normally but will stay in bed watching something until they're ready to get up.

cloudcett · 25/10/2020 21:20

My 8 year old goes to bed 8pm weekdays, lights out by 8.30pm.
8.30pm weekends, lights out by 9.
She either reads or listens to music /audio books during the half hour before lights out.

MrsBungle · 25/10/2020 21:25

My 8 year old goes to bed at 8:30pm on week nights (reading until 9) and 9pm on a weekend. I have to admit though that he’s dc2 and I’m more lenient than I was with dc1 who was in bed by 8 at the latest aged 8!

NightmareLoon · 25/10/2020 21:31

DD (just turned 10) had a bedtime of 8:45 last year. It crept to 9:15 or later during lockdown but now with school back she is even more tired, so 8:30!

mindutopia · 26/10/2020 13:37

Bedtime is the same every day here (nothing special about the weekends, as it's the only time I have off in the evening, work the other days after bedtime, so I just want to sit down with dh and relax!). Mine is 7.5 but goes in to bed around 8-8:30pm but usually not asleep until 9:30-10pm. She plays in her room and then goes to sleep when she's ready. Up usually at 7:30am.
