September 2020 babies- how are we all doing?

Hi ladies! I had my gorgeous DS back on 22 September and just wanted to post to see how our September babies are getting on?
I'm a FTM and whilst I had an idea what to expect it's been a massive shock to the system!

The lack of sleep is what is ruining me but I have to say me abs DH make a great team and each giving each other time to lie in, or go to bed early or nap.
DH is on nights this week so pretty much on my own all day and night so it's been pretty exhausting!
How is everyone else doing?

I had my ds2 on the 28th september and what a whirlwind it's been. I'm so exhausted with the sleepness nights and looking after ds1 who is 2.5 years old. Little one has issues doing a poo and has just been diagnosed with reflux also so it's been manic lol.

lockdownpregnancy · 20/10/2020 20:13

I know how you feel @LoveRainbow02 my DS has been struggling with wind and gets so upset he's then sick/gets reflux.
We are having to keep him on our chest for 30 minutes after his bottle before we can put him down, that on top of taking nearly 2 hours to bring his wind up so he isn't sleeping for long periods of time, he just has a 30 minute nap or so and then it all starts again, so the sleep deprivation is brutal.
However he slept for 3 hours the other day! I must have gone into such a deep sleep I had no idea who I was, or what was going on when he woke me up! 🤪🤪🤪

@lockdownpregnancy I literally could have written your whole post myself lol! My ds has to always be held upright which is a pain when out and about with the pram as he only manages a short time lying flat before hes up screaming in pain. I've been using infacol for wind and I noticed a difference the first few days but like you I'm sitting for ages most time trying to get the wind up now. Its so tough for them in these early days when they struggle with wind and reflux. My ds1 had colic and reflux too so thankfully I spotted the signs early enough this time. Have infant gaviscon to collect tomorrow so hoping I see a difference with that 🤞. I'm currently lying in bed while ds sleeps which is probably the earliest I've gotten him down since he was born, hopefully he has a decent sleep tonight and isnt too bothered with wind.

@LoveRainbow02 I'm still on the sofa with my DS on my chest. He's skipped his last nap because of his wind and low and behold now due his next bottle so I've not been able to get him down yet! He's just ko'd on me so I'm hoping that's it for a couple hours but I've got to give him a bit before I can put him in his next to me crib.
We have been using Colief and it has helped him, but doctor says to try Infacol, so if things don't continue to improve we will try that.
What's your babies pooping like? Mine doesn't go every day. It's every few days, but when he goes, he goes!!!

LoveRainbow02 · 21/10/2020 03:16

@lockdownpregnancy I actually managed to get into bed at 9 last night and lo slept until midnight before he woke for a feed, back up doing another feed now. He does the toilet every few days too, most recent being 2 hours ago and it was everywhere 🤣. Yeah maybe try infacol and see if that is better for your lo. Hope you have managed some sleep tonight.

lockdownpregnancy · 21/10/2020 09:44

Morning @LoveRainbow02 I could have written your last post! 🤪 however my DS decided he didn't want to sleep until nearly midnight!!
But he did sleep for 3 hours, then 2 hours, followed by another 2 hours so we got up at 9am 💪🏻
He also filled his nappy around 3am this morning, so that was a relief as he hadn't been for a couple of days!
Did the rest of your night go ok for you?

OP posts:
LoveRainbow02 · 21/10/2020 10:39

@lockdownpregnancy Its insane how much we keep track of poops with babies 🤣. Getting up at 9am sounds like bliss! Ds2 had a feed at 3am, spent an hour and a half trying to settle him but couldnt, ended up taking another bottle at 4.45am and dropped off at 5.30am. I managed another hours sleep before ds1 woke me at 6.45 😴. Baby is draining bottles every 2 hours, sometimes earlier, I feel like I'm constantly stuck to the couch lol. Still feels a bit surreal also that I now have 2 little humans to look after lol.

Embalina · 21/10/2020 16:01

Hiya both - my DS was born on 30th Sept, I’ve actually just posted another thread about his 3 week growth spurt he’s going through. It looked as though we had night times sorted, then he hit this growth spurt and now night time sleep is a thing of the past!
Also think he’s suffering from wind a lot which is not helping.
DH is a teacher so counting down the hours until half term!

lockdownpregnancy · 21/10/2020 17:54

@LoveRainbow02 I baby is enough for me, no more! I applaud you for having more than one! I don't know how you all do it! I bow down to you! 😁
@Embalina you're lucky if you had the sleeping nailed at 3 weeks! Our DS has just filled out over the last few days for sure! One minute some of his sleep suits are hanging off him, the next they fit! It's crazy how fast they grow!
I had a C Section and I've really felt the strain on my stomach muscles the last 2 days, just lifting baby all the time. Whilst my stitches have dissolved and my wound is healing well my muscles are still going back to normal and I lifted the car seat today with DS in it and I'm really feeling it now!

OP posts:
LoveRainbow02 · 21/10/2020 20:01

@Embalina nailing sleep at 3 weeks old is such an achievement, hopefully your lo is back in their routine soon 🤞.

@lockdownpregnancy Gosh take it easy with the lifting, no wonder your feeling it tonight 😔. Having a c section was my biggest fear, some say it's the easy option but in my opinion it is far harder than a natural delivery. The recovery alone sounds hellish. Ds is just having his screaming episode that he has ever night so I've left him with dh whilst I soak in a nice hot bubble bath. Ds1 is staying with grandparents tonight so i get to enjoy my bath in peace and not have it invaded by a toddler lol.

lockdownpregnancy · 21/10/2020 20:25

@LoveRainbow02 a hot bubble bath!! I only have a shower in my house, I'd kill for a bath with a glass of rose and some music! That would be bliss!
My DH is on nights this week so it's just me and DS for the week; day & night 😫 I'm ruined and it's only Wednesday! 😭
My DS has only just nodded off. He's been awake since 2.30pm!
I'm hoping he doesn't sleep for too long otherwise he won't go down later 😬
In relation to the C Section, my labour wasn't great so in the end I told them to give me one as DS just wasn't coming. He was totally stuck!. The first few days were brutal but I've recovered amazingly well so I'm really pleased! Especially with DH being at work I haven't had to rope in reinforcements to help me as I've been pretty mobile for the last few weeks.

OP posts:
Embalina · 22/10/2020 08:30

Yeah it wasn’t perfect but he seemed to be getting into his stride and settling, ever since we put him in the SleepyHead and, strangely, took the swaddling away as he likes having his hands up by his face.
I really wasn’t expecting a better night last night but he slept for 2.5hrs, 2.5hrs, 1.3hrs then 1hr up until 7:30am, god to have more than a couple of hours sleep! Last night I put him in a sleeping bag for the first time too, we were using blankets before, I wonder if he was too cold before Sad

@lockdownpregnancy Wow poor you re c-section, I would not want that recovery. Had an episiotomy due to a forceps delivery and the recovery from that has been bad enough, only got on top of the pain in the last week.

We’ve noticed how much heavier he is over the last few days, such a chunk now!

LoveRainbow02 · 22/10/2020 16:54

How has today been with the babies? I finally got my ds his gaviscon after a mix up at the chemist. He has had 1 dose so far, really hoping this helps his reflux 🤞.

@Embalina Ouch to the episiotomy too 😔. I've been lucky with both births and walked away with onky a graze each time. Ds also seems really heavy now. Hes put on over a pound since hes been born which is fab as he was only 6lbs 5oz when born.

Embalina · 22/10/2020 17:08

@LoveRainbow02 Oh bless him, that is tiddly, I’m glad he’s been putting on weight well. Mine hasn’t been weighed since day 12 so I keep meaning to weigh him on our scales, I reckon he’s overtaken 10lb now.

It was getting really painful but started following some advice that me and my husband picked up, largely from mumsnet actually, and it’s started healing so much better, I’m hardly in pain at all now thank goodness - some women have it really rough for months.

Fingers crossed for the gaviscon - I went down to the chemist today too but for some infacol after my friend recommended it. I’m really hoping it helps his painful gas and/or digestion, he’s been really grunting in his sleep and looks so uncomfortable, and wriggling around quite a bit, hate him being in pain. We went out for our third solo outing though in the pram which felt so good - the first time went so badly, he kicked off when the pram stopped moving, again in the chemist, and wouldn’t let me put him back down without screaming but I hadn’t brought the sling so had to try and wedge him in my coat for part of the way home! You live and learn!

lockdownpregnancy · 22/10/2020 18:02

@Embalina my section recovery has been great actually (other than the first week which was vile!) Given that he wasn't in the right position I imagine a natural birth with intervention would have resulted in some serious damage to my lady bits!
Only silver lining to a section is that everything is still as it was pre pregnancy 🤪
I've been using Colief for ds's wind and the last few days I've noticed a massive difference in how much easier it is for him and he goes down a lot quicker. I just hope it carries on 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🤞🤞🤞
He did 4 x 2 1/2 hour stints sleeping last night which was awesome as I actually felt relatively rested when I got up with him at 8.30am this morning.
It's DH's last shift on nights this week so I'm hoping DS does well again tonight!

OP posts:
LoveRainbow02 · 23/10/2020 05:33

@Embalina My lo screams when the pram stops moving too. I actually struggle with getting him to sleep and when I do its usually for only 20 mins then hes back up crying, although I think reflux plays a massive part in his discomfort.

@lockdownpregnancy How does the colief work? Is it added straight to the bottle or syringed into babys mouth? I'm thinking of switching as infacol doesnt seem to be doing the trick for us now.

Ds has been awake since his last feed at 3.30am so I guess that's me up for the day as ds2 will be awake within the hour. Cant really complain though as he slept from 9.30pm lasy night until 3.30am this morning so thats the longest stretch I have ever got from him.

Embalina · 23/10/2020 12:16

@LoveRainbow02 I was recommended Dentinox colic drops from lots of people on FB so I picked a bottle up today. Lucky really, as I managed to spill the rest of my infacol bottle on the floor earlier! Not sure how much the infacol has done for my son either. He seems in less pain but is still grunting when he’s sleeping and still seeming uncomfortable.
Yeah reflux will no doubt be playing a big part. 20 mins is so frustrating though.
Mine’s getting better at tolerating the pram stopping, especially as I roll it back and forth if I have to stand still like to pay or something. He woke up as soon as we got back in the door today though, was so frustrating! I thought he might stay asleep after being back from a walk but hasn’t been the case for more than 10 minutes so far.

@lockdownpregnancy Haha that is a good silver lining though to be fair! I’m glad your recovery has gone well.
That’s amazing! 9:30-3:30, brilliant. Our record is still 3 hours at night.

I gave in last night and gave him a dummy. I had them ready after we had such difficult nights after getting back from the hospital but have tried not to use them until I really needed to so I didn’t interrupt breast-feeding. But I was just so tired last night and he wouldn’t settle, was wide awake as soon as I put him down and uncomfortable from wind - as soon as he got the dummy he settled!

He’s had difficulty settling today as well apart from being out in the pram so have just let him fall asleep on me after feeding. So looking forward to him being 8-9 weeks old and able to get into more of a routine.

lockdownpregnancy · 23/10/2020 13:28

@LoveRainbow02 the Colief drops are put into their formula, or added to your breast milk if you are expressing into a bottle. As I said the last few days to a week we've noticed a real difference. I just hope it carries on. Colief is an enzyme that breaks down the lactose in the milk to help them digest it easier which results in less wind and no constipation.
The only thing is, is his poop is a lot runnier and has a finger of green, but the leaflet says that will happen. It also stinks!! 🤪🤪🤪
My DS did 3, 2 1/2 & 2 1/2 hours again last night. That's 3 in a row this week! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
My DS also loves his car seat and pram and I'm
Lucky as when I take the dog for a walk he crashes and does stay asleep when we get home and I leave him in his pram. I do leave him in his car seat but I unclip him first as he's it's tight fitting (for obvious reasons).
I took him out this morning and he did the same thing, where he started to whinge when I stopped moving, but tbf, he was due his bottle.
DS has a dummy too which is an amazing help to get him to settle. He doesn't have it all the time just quickly before a bottle to stop him from getting too worked up and to get him to sleep if he's being fussy.

Embalina · 25/10/2020 02:03

OMG cluster feeding night! No idea why, fairly sure he came out of his 3-week growth spurt a couple of days ago. Husband had him up until midnight but kept having to bring him into me as he was so fussy and wanting feeds.

I thought it might be because he’s slept on my husband between feeds all day and doesn’t want to be in hid crib but not so sure as every time I pick him up out of the crib he’s feeding cue-ing.

Not even his dummy seems to be helping tonight. Think I’m in for a long one.

Hope you guys are having a better night

LoveRainbow02 · 25/10/2020 06:37

@Embalina Oh no I hope you managed some sleep 🤞.

I'm just up with ds1 so enjoying a cup of tea in peace lol. Dh took over the night feeds on friday night to give me a rest so I've had 2 full nights sleep in a row 😊.

@lockdownpregnancy I tried to buy colief drops but the supermarkets near me only seem to have dentinox in stock 😔. Baby is much more settled now, it seems the gaviscon is helping.

lockdownpregnancy · 25/10/2020 13:03

Afternoon @LoveRainbow02 & @Embalina
DS literally screamed the place down for over 2 hours last night before we got him to settle. It was heartbreaking to hear, to the point where I cried as it broke my heart to hear him.
Neither me or DH could get him to settle for so long!
We went and got some gripe water this morning now he's over a month old and hopefully that will help!
Thankfully he did well through the night once he did go down but my god from 8pm until 11pm was torture! Poor lil poppet! 😭😭

OP posts:
Embalina · 25/10/2020 13:29

@lockdownpregnancy Oh god, that is the worst feeling ever, I’m not surprised you cried! Heartbreaking is the word for it, I’m sorry that was so horrible. I really hope the gripe water helps. Ours didn’t like the taste of Dentinox but it seemed to do the trick.
I’m glad he settled at last.

@LoveRainbow02 I got a little bit of sleep as it got closer to morning, and then husband took over from 7:30 and let me have another couple of hours. So glad yours has been able to give you a couple of nights off, it really does make all the difference.
DS is now snoring on my shoulder after a feed. Seems his cluster feeding has calmed a little bit now. I’ve got a phone call booked in tomorrow with someone from a breastfeeding FB page I was recommended - I’m not overly concerned but seeing as I’m fairly sure he’s not in a growth spurt, it’d be reassuring to just chat it through with someone to figure out why he’s doing it.

Married2019 · 26/10/2020 06:36

Hi ladies!! Reading through all your posts, I feel like i couldve written them all myself! Our little girl is 5 weeks old now (born 17th Sept) and struggles massively with bringing her wind up. We've tried infacol, dentinox and now gripe water to no avail. She's able to drink 5oz pretty regularly (every 3ish hours) and sleeps well; sleeps in her moses basket between the 10, 1, 4 and 7am feeds.. But she will not let you wind her! We have to fight with her every feed and often leave her without having brought any up as she gets so distressed. It doesn't seem too much of a problem in the day but then builds up so we often have a difficult few hours in the evening where she's really uncomfortable with trapped wind 😩 hope you've all managed to get some good sleep x

Embalina · 26/10/2020 08:22

Hey @Married2019! Oh how frustrating for you both. My aunt said the only thing that’d bring up my cousin’s wind and ease his colic was a vibrating chair, do you have one?

Glad she’s sleeping well in between feeds.

Luckily my son’s random cluster feeding seems to have stopped! We had a relatively OK night, just had to resettle with the dummy a few times, and he went 2-3 hours in between feeds. It was hourly the night before, not nice!

lockdownpregnancy · 26/10/2020 18:17

Hi @Married2019 we have had DS on gripe water for two days and noticed a massive difference. He still struggles with discomfort a little bit no screaming for a couple of days which has been amazing! He's sleeping better too which I assume has something to do with his tummy feeling easier for him.
He slept for 4 hours straight last night then 2 lots of 2 hours, so me and DH woke up this morning feeling like we had actually slept properly! I'm hoping this is the start of things to come 🤞
He still spits up a lot though, does anyone else find this? If we move him too fast or put him down to sleep too soon he just brings his bottle back up. Thankfully only small amounts but enough to warrant various sleep suit changes throughout the day sometimes 😬
He doesn't seem bothered by it though 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
