Really stupid advice needed re: tooth fairy!!!

DD is 10, I'm sure she doesn't believe in the tooth fairy anymore and is just using it to get money lol

However I'm loath to say 'well actually it's been me all these years' would like to put it nicer

If you told your child how did you go about it... of course telling her about this is probably going to question Santa...

There'll be a massive debate now about how worng/right it is to lie to your children. It's been on here before but I say stuff it, she knows, you know she knows but don't give in. They have little enough fantasy stuff these days and my oldest is 17 and I have never once, not once, said there is no you know who (just in case anyone's LO's are reading this!).So what if she's using it to get money.....kids don't have all their teeth falling out at the same time so it won't break the bank!

I did wonder if I was opening a can of worms but lets face it there will always be the tooth fairy/against tooth fairy debate.

As for santa everyone KNOWS if you stop believing you don't get anymore presents....lol

Well, I still got a stocking from santa all the time I was living at home, and that was on and off 'till I was 18!
Of course I knew he wasn't real by then, but getting that stocking was better than all my actual christmas presents put together.
There s something magical about waking up to find a gift in your bed .
It doesn't matter whether your daughtwer has sussed things or not. She will not think about whether she's been lied to. She will just enjoy the fact that it is still happening.

Heavens yes, keep the magic going, it's certainly harmless at 10 whatever the arguments might be for being 'honest' earlier, for as you say she will know perfectly well it's just a nice story by now. The TF goes away naturally when there are no more teeth, so no need to mention it, IMO.

As for Santa, my eldest is 28 and the younger 18 and they still get stockings and always will... they enjoy them quite as much as their other gifts and to be honest, I love the fantasy and fun of it. Though erm 'making sure' that Rudolph has eaten his carrot might get a miss this year cos it's darn chilly down by the chimney at midnight..

I don't think my children have ever really truely believed in the tooth fairy, father Christmas, the Easter Bunny, the Advent calendar fairy, the Christmas pyjama reindeer the Three Kings, the Summer Solstice witch - but we all love the rituals and will continue them, I confidently expect, well into adult life. I am well into middle age, but I would be disappointed if I didn't get a mysteriously appearing Christmas stocking on whatever day my mother visits!
