Should I stop swaddling?

Have bubs in my arms so will keep it short! 2 months old, can break out of swaddle in cellular blanket, which happens at night if he has wind that makes him uncomfortable. Tried growbag swaddle and he hates it, will not sleep. Is it irresponsible to keep swaddling, did it last night in a bigger muslin sheet and he found it harder to break out. I sleep so close to him, hear ever move he makes but worried one night I might sleep so deeply and hot hear him kicking sheet around. Any advice, products that helped?

I never swaddled mine.

seayork2020 · 16/10/2020 11:03

I never understood the need to swaddle, ds screamed the first time we tried it so we just didn't do it from then on

Yes I am sure there is some baby book that says why but we never learnt it past it being mentiomed5on a list of something to buy.

So can't help I don't think

My little guy can't do without it, and even at that he doesn't sleep long in his cot. I'm on my own so sleep deprivation is so painful some days

Have you put him in a sleeping bag?

Napqueen1234 · 16/10/2020 11:44

Mine both loved swaddling OP. I used to use a big thin muslin so you could wrap it round tight and tuck in with blanket over. Nothing wrong with swaddling babies some need it I think! I used a grobag or muslin.

LongJohnGlitter · 16/10/2020 11:49

@AriettyHomily yes he hates it, arms in or out : (
@Napqueen1234 yes have big muslin and it seems to stay on better. Did you keep swaddling after you LO could get his/her arms out?

My baby loved swaddling too up until about 3 months.

Have a look a Love To Dream swaddles. They worked really well for me.

Another vote for Love to Dream swaddles. They’re brilliant. Easy to put on, very thin layer so reduces risk of overheating, baby can rub face and suck gusts to soothe. Best swaddles IMO.

Escape proof too!! We swaddled until baby started rolling around 4.5/5 months.

I've only recently stopped swaddling at night time. He's 5mo but not rolling yet as a preemie. I also used a large thin muslin for it and he slept really well with it. But decided to stop as he was totally breaking out of it too and desperately wants to sleep with hands up over his eyes lol. I have to hold his arms down gently until he falls asleep still though and once he's asleep he'll move them himself without waking up.

You do not need to swaddle, some find their their little ones like it and sleep better, but if that's not the case then I wouldn't worry to be honest. You can get sleeping bags from newborn now, just check it's the correct size so that the neck doesn't slip down, a lot have adjusters at the sides anyway.
