9 month old really straining to poo

9 month DS still has bad reflux despite weaning so takes gaviscon three times a day.

When pooing he goes dark red and really strains. Cos gaviscon makes you constipated I have just out it down to that and assumed it was normal but give him lots of fruit and water.

My mum has started going on and on about getting it checked as its not normal and is getting me worried.

Was I wrong to ignore it? Should I get him checked?

Should add MIL just laughs when she sees it and says 'oh he's pooing again' so obviously she isn't too worried.

What is his actual poo like? Soft or hard pellets?

@TeddyIsaHe its like playdough. Large doughy lumps

If he's in pain and not going once a day I'd chat to the GP. Mine really suffers with constipation and if you let it get too bad you can actually stretch the bowel, it does need attention. It's very painful too.
