Dream feed

So my DS is 5 months today. He went through the sleep regression and this changed his previous good sleeping habits to going to bed at 8ish, waking between 2-3am for a feed, then waking at half 5am and having to be encouraged back to sleep until half 6. I have never done a dream feed, is this something I should try? Is it likely to extend the time he sleeps?

Maybe it will, maybe it wont? Try it for a bit and see how you go. For some people it extends the sleep time before their baby asks for another feed. For me it made absolutely no difference whatsoever. My son still woke for his usual feed. I stopped doing it, and he stopped asking for a feed maybe around 5.5 months.

I would never wake a sleeping well child but mine were crap sleepers so I didn’t need to do a dream fed because they were already awake.

You can just give it a go and see what happens.

We dreamfed my little one up until about 10 months and it worked well for us.

Re the above poster’s point about not waking a sleeping baby, you don’t wake a sleeping baby with a dreamfeed - that’s the point! They are basically still asleep while feeding x

I did a dream feed with one of mine till he was 18 months, every time I tried to drop it before this he started waking at 5am for the day. With a dream feed at 11pm he would sleep till 7am from the age of your dc.

Is he hungry when he wakes up? A dream feed will only prolong sleep if he wakes from hunger, obviously. We have similar patterns to your baby. I gave up on an 11pm dream feed as it wasn’t making much difference and it means I can go to bed earlier
