Confused about covid restrictions. Can family members see baby?

Hi everyone, I'm honestly so confused about what's right and what's wrong.
My family live 30mins away so i go down to them every 2 weeks to stay for 3 days, my partners large family are all within a 5 min radius. Are still allowed to have physical contact? Some of my family are vulnerable and I'd always put seeing them first, should I shut myself off to others and see them from a distance to make sure I'm good to see my family? It feels like life is completely normal now despite numbers increasing so its left me confused. I know about the rule of six, but what happens with social distancing? Are people allowed to hold my baby still or hug each other bye?

Hi Alesha,

I'm thinking you are in England? And not in an area with added rules? -

You are allowed to meet up to 6 people indoors or outdoors.
You are not allowed to hug/kiss etc and must keep your distance. In England, people should not hug your baby either.

No they shouldn't have physical contact. You should keep 2m apart from anyone you don't live with. Or at least 1m with mitigation (masks, being outside). The only exception is if you have formed a support bubble with a single person.

So for your specific situation:

Are still allowed to have physical contact? - no you are not

Some of my family are vulnerable and I'd always put seeing them first, should I shut myself off to others and see them from a distance - you can keep vulnerable people safer by spending less time with others. You should not be close physically to anyone.

It feels like life is completely normal now - it should not be, we were not told we were allowed to hug again.

I feel bad, everyone's been hugging everyone, I had no idea. When rules started to lift everyone just went in for baby holds, everyone started going in to hug me and I assumed some sort of rule was lifted but it was never allowed to beging with? I guess it's my fault for not researching it more.. I havnt had covid but theres a real possibility now.

My family are vunreble and some are lonely until I visit, some already not haveing the longest time left. if I shut myself off to everyone and anyone to make sure I'm safe for them to have baby hugs, is that alright or is that still a 100% no?

It's still against government regulations @alesha123445 but I could understand why you would want to do that. When you say vulnerable, do you mean physically to covid19?

The guidance is that we’re supposed to socially distance; I think everyone has to make their own decision when it comes to babies. Family have been holding and cuddling my baby and toddler DD since July; it’s not realistic and at times impossible for no one other than me and DH to hold them until this is all over which is a long time away.

In Scotland children under 12 don't need to socially distance but regulations seem to be different in England

Technically you're not supposed to be hugging or coming into close contact anyone who isn't in your household or support bubble.

However I do think very very few people are following that now.

Nobody should be even sitting close to anyone outside their household let alone hugging. You’ve misunderstood completely what is required. All you can do is do it properly going forward.

My region has one of the lowest infection rates in the country despite loads of people coming on holiday here from highly infected areas and barely anyone following the rules 🤷‍♀️

My parents lived in one of those areas. It was everyone else that wasn't following the rules not the lovely middle class people on their village.... they now have a higher rate per 100000 than the very urban high risk lockdown area I live in.

I don't think its as simple as "we're all following the rules".
