What school??!!

DD6 is at an infants school in the village we used to live in (7 minutes down road in car) One month after starting in reception our landlord decided to sell our flat and we had to move to the next village as there was nothing available and within our price range. The "plan" was that in the 3 years we would get back to the village and problem solved. Life happened and the move hasn't happened and doesn't look like it ever will. Prices have gone up making it even more difficult.

Applications for junior school opened today. My question is.. What do we do??!! I am more than happy for her to go to the juniors attached to the infants. All our friends are there, but even though she's been in the infants as we are now outside the catchment area now would we get a space?! We've spoken to her about a new school and she seems up for it. She's quite a sociable little thing but would she even get a space where we are now considering she hasn't been to infants here??

To further complicate we no have DD1 who would be starting reception when DD6 starts YR5. If we kept her in old village would DD1 get sibling priority even though we are outside of catchment? Can't have two kids in different places!!

I'm so confused!!!! Please help! Any experiences??

You need to check the admissions criteria for each school

  • does the infant school attended make any difference?
  • does the distance you live from the school get considered? If so what has been the furthest distance over the last few years offered a place, and would you be within that?
  • do both schools offer sibling priority with the relevant infant school?
  • I assume you have visited/are familiar with all the schools concerned and would be happy for your DCs to attend any of them?

@Seeline

Thanks for the reply. The gumfp sent by the school says priority will be given if child already has a place to a linked infant school but then goes on to say that whether you live in the catchment area is one of the biggest things. The school closest to us has an excellent oftsed rating and I have friends who's kids already go there.

Just sooo confusing!!!
