Changing formula due to straining

Babyblues12 · 06/10/2020 11:32

My 4 week old seems to strain all day and is occasionally sick. I rang the GP who advised changing his formula. My understanding is that all formula is the same, so I'm not sure what it will achieve and am worried the GP was fobbing me off as an anxious mum.
It would be great to know what others experiences of this has been. Thank you

How about comfort formula? Ds struggled with constant straining due to constipation from the normal cow and gate but was a new man on the comfort version!

Is he constipated (poo hard) or is it just infant dyschezia?

I brought the comfort version yesterday, hopefully it will help my boy too. How long did it take you to see a change?

Also Google infant dyschezia which is something they just grow out of as they learn to coordinate straining and unclenching...

Oooh snap @Lockdownseperation

His poo isnt hard, it looks as it should. I hadn't heard of infant dyschezia before. It seems to be more that. Hopefully he will work through it on his own in that case

Worked within a day or so for the constipation and pain! Health visitors advised against keeping him on it long term so we had a few attempts to switch back but a paediatric doctor (who he saw for an unrelated reason) said that was crap and he could stay on it as long as needed! He's 11 months now so almost fully weaned but it's done him no harm.

Can’t advise on formula as I’m breastfeeding but our baby strained constantly at night until about 10 weeks. Think it was just immature digestive system. It’s fine now (13 weeks) Might not be anything to do with the formula?
