8 month sleep regression

M2AL · 05/10/2020 04:40

Hi everyone my little one is nearly eight months and has been a pretty good sleep at night since six weeks old. She only has the odd night where she has a bad night normally. However this past week has been awful. It’s taking longer for her to go to sleep and at night around 2 ish she’s awake for hours at a time. If I ignore her she just rolls around in her cot. If I pick her up to cuddle her to sleep it still takes over an hour. I’ve heard people talk about a 8 month sleep regression. Is this true. Has anyone been through similar .
Tia

My baby is 8 months and we are up now. While she's ckapping. Her sleep has gone terrible I can sympathise. She's leant to do so many things recently so I'm hoping it's that

Dexy2020 · 05/10/2020 04:46

@M2AL mine went back to sleep at 06:55 for a grand total of 40 minutes, I've bought him out for a walk and he's had the cheek to fall asleep again at 08:45!!!! 😂😂

Fivebyfive2 · 05/10/2020 10:04

Omg I'm so glad to find this thread! My little man is 9.5 months old. 8 months was pretty OK for sleep (for him!) but the last 2 weeks have been awful. Up every 90 mind to 3 hours, wide awake for up to 2.5 hours in the middle of the night sometimes and back to being impossible to put down without him getting upset!

Hopefully our babies come out the other side soon?! Solidarity! 🍩🍰🍫☕🍷

Absolutely sounds like it. You watch, it’ll pass and suddenly she’ll have developed a whole new skill (like crawling).

We used to call these brain farts Grin you any so much with them to make them sleep, their brains are just wired at the time. If not crying or upset, just leave her to roll around and think. My DS used to be awake for up to two hours in the night sometimes! Drove me nuts! Am resolved to ignore and go back to sleep with DS2.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 05/10/2020 11:41

You *can’t do much

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 05/10/2020 12:26

For the last week my 6.5 month old insists on being awake between the hours of 1am - 2.30am every night, and then get up for the day at 5.30am 😴😭

ballsdeep · 06/10/2020 01:37

And here we arr again!! FFS. I longingly remember the days of her sleeping all night

M2AL · 06/10/2020 03:43

@FizzingWhizzbee123 she’s learnt to crawl this week. And now decides she wants to do it in her cot too at 2 oclock.

@ballsdeep us to exactly the same as yesterday

We're up now aswell wahoooo!! :/ ☕☕☕☕xx

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 06/10/2020 04:34

Im awake!

Dexy2020 · 06/10/2020 06:14

@M2AL @Fivebyfive2 @Letsallscreamatthesistene @ballsdeep @FizzingWhizzbee123 if your babies get up for the day say 4am, do you try to get them back down to sleep for their appropriate wake time or do you hold them out until you would usually put them down for a nap? Xx

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 06/10/2020 06:33

I always try to put him back down

user1493413286 · 06/10/2020 07:32

My DD had this at 8 months; I think it was the worst regression. It did pass after about 2-3 weeks but it was truly awful

Fivebyfive2 · 06/10/2020 08:54

@M2AL, mine crawled properly for the 1st time this week too and is now trying to pull himself up on everything 😂

@Dexy2020, he was up at 4 yesterday, obviously tired but fighting to be up for the day! I took him to our bed and held/rocked/fed him until he stopped fighting it and drifted back off... Ended up holding him for over an hour because I didn't want to risk him being fully awake! I managed to get him to sleep until 6.30, which is at least a tad more sociable.

Just showing this thread to my dh, it's nice to know it's normal and we're not doing something really wrong!

Dexy2020 · 06/10/2020 09:31

@Fivebyfive2 to be honest we've not really seen past 5am since July but this 3:30/4 is getting extreme, part of me wants to feed him to see if he will settle again but he's not really hungry as he barely had 4oz when he got up and I don't no whether it will start bad habits? Hmm I dunno xx

Fivebyfive2 · 07/10/2020 03:21

Omfg, he did 7.45 till 10.15 and has been up every hour since! He woke at 2am and is still awake 😢

Dexy2020 · 07/10/2020 04:29

@Fivebyfive2 oh gosh that sounds awful!! Weve been up since 03:50 so slight improvement on yesterday (20 mins) 😭hope you've managed to get back to sleep!! Xx

Fivebyfive2 · 07/10/2020 08:56

@Dexy2020, he finally conked back out at 4am, I had to feed him to sleep though. Then he was wide awake at 6.30 and is having his morning nap now. Hopefully tonight is better?!

Dexy2020 · 07/10/2020 09:29

@Fivebyfive2 yes tonight is a new night! 🥰Xx

M2AL · 08/10/2020 04:14

Today is just as bad! Wish this sleep regression was over

My DS was the same when learning to roll & crawl & walk! She'll crack it soon enough. "This too shall pass"
Sending ☕️ and strength at this difficult time*

  • she says having been awake for the last 90 mins because his majesty had the audacity to wake up for milk at 3am and she can't go back to sleep! 😫
Dexy2020 · 08/10/2020 04:21

@M2AL he's done 18:45pm till 4am last night so gradually getting better still seems tired tho but definately up for the day, you would think with all this development they would be sleeping a lot more not less wouldnt you? Hope your having a nice hot, strong cup of coffee!! ☕Xx

ballsdeep · 10/10/2020 21:12

My baby is still the same!!! She has learnt to pull herself up now so is doing it in her cot all hours of the night. I usually leave her as she is next to me but she talks and shrieks so loudly 🤣🤦‍♀️ Argh!
