Child Apple ID

Bought DD an iPhone and need to set up an Apple ID for her. I'm a bit confused, if we set up a child account for her would that mean she can't access WhatsApp and YouTube etc? We do need to ensure that if she has an adult account linked on Families she doesn't have free rein to buy what she likes from the app store. Thanks in advance

How old is your dd?

They can't make their own under 13 according to apple website and would need a parent to make it and add to their family.

Screenshot attached says unless you turn on "ask to buy" then the child will be able to purchase and install stuff without permission.

I know people who just set it up on a regular Apple ID but don't ever give their child the password so they can't install or purchase in app content anyway and the parent installs stuff for them. The horror stories of kids running up hundreds in in app purchases are often because the parent has changed settings to require a password it because they've given their child the password.
