6pm Bedtime??

Hi
So my 8 month old has had x2 unusual 90 minute naps today and the last one took us up to 2pm so I've put him to bed at 6pm. Does anyone else put their babies to bed at this time? Seems very early 😂 He usually has 3 naps a day but seen as tho he's had 2 long ones we've gone for a 2 nap day xx

The earliest I've put mine to bed is 6.30 but when I do he always wakes up really early 5.30/6 so I avoid it if I can!

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 04/10/2020 18:18

We were the opposite in that we'd often end up taking them to bed with us later!

NewMumma1819 · 04/10/2020 18:25

No matter how many naps our son has (9 months) he always has to be in Pj's being fed to sleep at 6pm. The only time naps affect bed time is if he gets a nap in after 3.30 then he will go to bed slightly later (maybe 30-45 mins). He's ready by 5.30 for bed so 6 is the furthest we can push it. He normally wakes between 6-7.30 in the morning and a couple times in the night for a feed.

Mine was always 6pm from five weeks, it was her natural sleepy time. She was hell on wheels if kept up later, and it’s only now at nearly two she can cope with a 6.30/7pm bedtime. She is and always has been a terrible napper though, so that must be a factor.

Yes she is an early riser (5.30am) but don’t be fooled into thinking later bedtimes lead to lie ins - we have tried for several three week periods to inch bedtime and wake time forward and failed miserably, with screaming tantrums to show for our efforts 🤦🏻‍♀️

Thank you for your replies 😍
He is known to be a 10hr a night boy so I'm half expecting a 4am wake up call 😂
I will report back tommorow what happened hehe xx

@uglyface I also have an early riser 04:30/5am every morning without fail so that's really reassuring to hear ❤️ I'm hoping that he will still wake up around that time but get longer hours in sleep 🥰🥰xx

@Dexy2020 Sorry to hear you’re in the early morning club too!

Our DD is exhausted this weekend from having grandma visit, but won’t sleep any later than 5am and won’t nap any longer so the only way to help her get any extra sleep was to put her to bed at 6pm tonight.

Get used to EVERYONE telling you to ‘just keep him up late, he’ll start sleeping in eventually’. Offer them a grumpy child for a few days and they’ll change their tune.

Dexy2020 · 04/10/2020 19:00

@uglyface oh my gosh if I had a pound for everyone that has said that to me I would be rich!! 😂I'm very concerned about the clock change at the end of the month as I go back to work in November, I'm hoping it passes through smoothly 🤞🤞xx

My LG went up 6 every night an woke any time from 5 which I didn't mind as was up at 6 anyway an plus I got a few hours to myself each night so it worked better for me shes now 5 an sleep by half 7 gets up at half 6

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 04/10/2020 19:21

Both of mine have been like this. I too am not looking forward to the clock change.
We change the clocks on the Friday night to get an extra day to reset and it seems to be less traumatic somehow. Still tough but it makes the Monday a bit less awful

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 04/10/2020 19:55

No matter what I do my baby wants to be in bed at 6.30

Lazysundayafternoons · 04/10/2020 20:07

Same as PP here, ds has been sleeping 6pm to 6.30/7am since he was six months old. (15months now).
I get up early for work anyway so dont mind the early morning starts and a huge bonus having the evening to myself and older ds.

Dexy2020 · 05/10/2020 04:23

Well he's been unsettled since 03:40 and I've given up and got up with him, oh dear :/ xx

Yes 6pm was for ds, he had 2 sleeps at, one for a bit in the morning then 2.5 hour one in afternoon then bed at 6pm then woke at 6am bottle then nap

seayork2020 · 05/10/2020 04:40

As a baby ds could not read a clock so wasnt bothered by the clocks changing

Dexy2020 · 05/10/2020 04:45

Hi @seayork2020 if a baby is in a pattern of waking at 04:30/5am then that will be 03:30/4am new time?? Aww wow 2.5 hour nap bet that was some nice downtime!! Xx

My son and daughter (3 years and 3 months) both go to bed at 6pm. My son would go at 5pm if I let him but this leads to an earlier wake up. My son has always been an early riser (I'm happy with 5am before that he's not in my good books 🤣). But if he wakes before 5 I don't go downstairs with him he has to lay in my bed till 5. I would choose evening to myself over later wake up any day!!

Dexy2020 · 05/10/2020 04:57

Morning @MsChatterbox :) yes it is lovely to have an hour or 2 in the evening I agree ❤️ anything with a 3 or 4 in it seems horrific, 5am is a lot kinder but we always seem to be in a 4 something at the moment haha xx

What I've learnt with my DS who's 22 months is just go with whatever works day to day! If he needs to go to bed early because he's knackered so be it. Nothing is forever and his sleep changes week by week! One week he'll sleep 12 hours straight not a peep the next he'll wake up 5/6 times in the night and be up at 4am. There's always something affecting them whether it's teething, illness, too hot/cold, developmental leaps etc etc etc!! Just do what you need to do to get through! Smile

Dexy2020 · 05/10/2020 09:48

@peach1234 your so right!! 🥰🥰Xx

@Dexy2020 Forgot to say, once they’re a bit older it’s easier because you can be that terrible parent that lets them watch Stick Man on your iPad in your bed while you doze ...

Dexy2020 · 05/10/2020 18:44

@uglyface 😂😂that sounds like a great idea!! :D it's all gone to pot today and he's had x4 30-40 minute naps and a 18:30pm bedtime..... Tommorow is a new day!! 🥰🥰Xx
