Baby naps making me confused!

Every time I think I’ve nailed a nap routine my DD (7 months) goes and changes the blimmin goal posts! Or you know, gets older and the needs change 😂

So at 6 months she had a nap window of 1.5-2hrs and would typically nap betwen 4-5 hours, so quite a lot of sleep!

She turned 7 months and will now only nap for 40mins twice a day. I’ve tried changing the nap window to 2-3 hours and she goes down fine but won’t resettle when she wakes. And sometimes she refuses to nap completely. She’s not crying, just rolling around in her cot playing with nothing and doesn’t settle. I even left it an hour one day!

At night she is fine and doesn’t need soothing if she wakes.

Neither sleep routine has changed but I’ve changed the nap window as likely she needs less sleep now?

I’m thinking if I just keep a consistent routine she will get used to napping again. Am I right? Is there anything else I should do?

Just to add, she’s not ok on these short naps! She’s obviously tired still and has started waking in the night a lot!

You'll find that at some point naps will get longer however they'll only need 1 per day. My son will now have a decent lunchtime nap and will sleep for around 2 hours. Ditto with my daughter. Some days if he's had a really bad night he'll go back to an early morning and a lateish afternoon nap.
I can't for the life of me remember when this change happened though!

My babies now 7 months but at 5-6m she had 2-3 naps lasting 1-2hours... i loved the free time. Now she only has 2 naps and ill be lucky if they last 30mins. When I think I've finally figured the times she napss, the next day its an hour earlier or later. I honestly give up 😄

I dont think mine needs as much sleep anymore, yours might be the same too :)

That sounds about right to me.

Is she sleeping through the night? If yes then just go with whatever is making that happen.
