Help!! First family car advice

I didn’t know where to post this but need some advice on first car.
I have a 21 month old and due second baby early next year and we still don’t have a car.
We will only have 2-3k to buy a car so wondering what are good cars that are affordable second hand and good insurance prices for first time drivers? Also a car that will fit a double pram in its boot!

Any help appreciated

Have a look in this section www.mumsnet.com/Talk/cars

Stretch it to £6k....or wait till you have more money...otherwise it'll cost you more buying somthing unreliable tbh....and/or will break down so often that you've just thrown 2/3k down the toilet.

2011 VW Golf is probably do-able at £6k.

Look at either Ford, VW or one of the other makes made by them, Seat, Skoda or Audi. Seat have better equipment spec than an equivalent VW for less money. Both Ford or the VW family have good reliability records, are good for hundreds of thousands of miles. For a family, something along the lines of Ford Focus, VW Golf, Seat Leon, Skoda Oktavia are your best bets, if you can manage to save up more money or can afford the finance, look for ex motability cars, they are well looked after & maintained, often have very low mileage & sometimes have extra equipment like parking sensors as standard.

Fords tend to be reasonable to maintain; Audi and VW are expensive but Skoda and Seat are more reasonable versions.

Id say avoid Audi/BMW/VW. They're not for you if you're on a tight budget and you dont get much car for your money.

Personally I think Ford is great. That said, ive just bought a Kia and really like it.

Id say, regardless of the make you go for, look for a car with a big boot.

I have a 2010 Citroen Zara Picasso, massive boot!
