To only bath my baby once or twice a week

He’s 5.5 months - is once or twice a week enough or should he be having daily baths?

@Zoflorabore

Mine are now 9 and 17 but we always did a nightly bath, obviously so they could be clean and also for a good routine. They both slept from the day they were born and I am only now getting payback for that!

I was always bathed daily as a child and I’m 42. I can tell which kids aren’t bathed regularlyHmm

I highly doubt that you can tell every single child that isn't bathed daily. What a silly statement to make.

Oh OP. I remember the insane exhaustion. Our twins are 13 months now and it's gotten better. It's OK if your DS bathes once or twice a week at this age. I remember making it a habit to bathe with my twins, one in a bouncer (the least fussy/sleepy), while the other was in the baby bathtub (then swap), but the baby bathtub was in the shower with me, so that way we all got a bath.
I always did it around 9-12 am, meaning after their bottle but before their 2nd nap. Then both hauled into the pram, where they fell asleep and I went food shopping /went for a walk or whatever. I think I did it about 3-4 times a week.
It's a nice habit that I recommend.

I didn’t say that i can tell every single child who isn’t bathed regularly but generally I can. Maybe it’s because i know this to be true for some people but others just have a grubby look about them/same school uniform on all week. It’s not hard to tell.

Obviously there are some people who don’t bath/shower their children every day but do wash them. I’m not talking about this situation. What I’m referring to is children who are visually dirty which is very sad in this day and age.

DS has a bath every night and has done since he was a baby - however this is partly for wind down routine and partly because he enjoys it. He’s now nearly 3yrs old and enjoys a quick shower with the bath shower head, when we’re running late, and the odd night he does just get a flannel wipe down if we are running seriously late.

However I don’t think it’s essential and I think baths a couple of times a week is fine as long as the child is getting some sort of daily wipe down.

My nephews are bathed twice daily (no idea why) and dressed in clean clothes every day. They always look filthy though. They’re just filthy looking children generally. I don’t know how they do it.

I look grubby, @BingoGo . I have uneven patches of freckles, so look generally grubby, like I've smeared dust across my face. I also have the kind of hair that sticks out of plaits, so never looked tidy at school.

My husband has a dishevelled air about him, too. You can iron, but you can't make him look smooth!

I always bathed DC every night before bed. Warm water relaxes them so they sleep well. Plus they all enjoyed playing on the bath.

HotToCold · 03/10/2020 14:33

Once or twice a week is fine.

As long as bum is clean.

Its more than enough

AlwaysLatte · 03/10/2020 14:50

We always did every day, although now they're older they prefer showers - still every night though! I think it's good as part of a regular bedtime routine.

14 month old bath everyday.. she’s super messy with shed food thru the day so needs a bath... plus she loves a bath so feel guilty when I do miss the odd night which is not oftern at all x

I'm the same as you OP, I gave my baby a bath once or twice a week. My LO is now 7m and i give her one every 2 or 3 days noa because it can get rid of some energy and help her to sleep on difficult nights. Ive been told my baby has Amazing skin. She basnt had a spot, a body rash... nothing apart from a bit of nappy rash as a newborn. No need to bathe them everyday, ignore anyone who says you should.

alesha123445 · 04/10/2020 19:17

I just want to add, I found i bathing my LO exhausting but the day I decided to get one with her, it made it lot easier becUze I didnt havs to do tons of bending and i got to relax too 😆

alesha123445 · 04/10/2020 19:20

also my babies always clean, always smelling lovely... babies just don't sweat like oldsr children and adults so the presumption that babies who aren't bathed everyday and visibly dirty is bs.
