What do you do with baby whilst you shower ?

Probably silly question but I am a ftm . My daughter is 5 weeks old and my husband works very late shifts , and I like to be showered and ready for bed to wind down with my little girl before DH gets home , but I’ve been waiting til my husband comes home and he often finds it a bit inconvenient (understandably) because he’s been out 15 hours and wants to get ready for bed himself . Is it ok to leave a newborn / infant in their cot whilst you shower ? Not sure how I stand if she cries and I’m in the shower and don’t hear her as I know letting them cry it out isn’t ideal at that age.
Thank you

I take DS in with me in his bouncer, he loves it!!

FolkSongSweet · 01/10/2020 20:03

Another one with the bouncer in the bathroom. DS liked watching me! But if I were you I’d seriously question your DH’s attitude if he won’t give you a break to have a shower when you’ve had the baby all day by yourself. Yes he’s been working but so have you!

We had a squashy changing mat, so I'd put that on the floor in the bathroom for him to lie on

BruceAndMarley · 01/10/2020 20:38

Thanks everyone , the bouncy chair worked a treat and the steam really helped her chest too. She was an emergency section baby and has been really congested since birth . So it was a win win. Mummy got a shower and baby had a little spa session !

We bought a cheap bouncy chair just for the bathroom and kept it in there.

Well a win/win/win actually because daddy continued his life completely undisturbed by any inconvenience or parenting whatsoever...
Exactly. He's sounds lovely Hmm

ellesbellesxxx · 01/10/2020 21:24

Mine were in a cot (I had twins) while I showered... the cot was by the bathroom door and I got very speedy at showering!

CeibaTree · 01/10/2020 21:45

Glad you found a solution that works for both you and DD :) But I am a bit puzzled by your DH - doesn't he want to have a cuddle with his baby after a long day at work, let alone give you a bit of a break. His working hours might be 15, but yours are 24/7 and that isn't fair.

GeorginaTheGiant · 01/10/2020 21:55

I’m ALL for dads stepping up but to be honest I’d be a bit Hmm if I’d got in from a 15 hour day and had to hold the baby rather than get changed etc specifically so my partner who had been home alone with said baby all day could have a shower...I would expect a shower to be something that’s achievable without a second adult on hand! As the OP has found out!

BruceAndMarley · 01/10/2020 22:11

I don’t want people to get the wrong impression of my husband . He’s a fantastic dad and understandably wants to get sorted after his shift, needs to make his packed lunch for the next day Unless I’ve had time to make it for him: I have no problem with it and if I ask him for a hand he will help. He’s just tired and it makes things easier if I’m settling with the baby so he’s not walking in to a screaming newborn :)

I showered when she napped and brought the monitor in with me ready to jump out if needed. Never needed to!

wasthataburp · 02/10/2020 06:49

Put him in his cot / Moses basket and leave the doors open. He will be fine

Caspianberg · 02/10/2020 07:56

I shower with baby in his cot as the bathroom and bedroom doors are opposite so I just leave open.

However I would still struggle now to shower in the evenings alone with ds 5 months. Mornings he’s fine in cot while I quickly shower alone, but evenings he’s ratty and tired. He often needs holding in the evenings and feeding to sleep so I wouldn’t want to have to shower every night without help unless needed. Atm I shower mornings, and if I want a relaxing evening bath I leave him with Dh to entertain

Itsnoteasyfeelingqueasy · 02/10/2020 22:45

I have a Chico hug 4 in 1 crib which tilts to a semi seat position. From day one I tilt it and wheel baby into bathroom while I shower. I put music on for her and I can see her from the shower. It’s a great crib that you can wheel around the house. She also comes in it in the kitchen while I wash up

PolarBearStrength · 02/10/2020 22:53

I once had a lovely long bath whilst DS lay in his baby gym on the bathroom floor when he was tiny!

You can’t do that with a toddler 😂

Sweetchillijam · 02/10/2020 23:01

I usually showered quickly when they had a morning nap.

BlueJag · 02/10/2020 23:06

I used to take my baby to the shower with me I have a plastic seat and I'll shower him first then he'll watch me shower. I used that seat to take him everywhere with me. They love watching you.
I'll just made sure he was warm with a towel.

movingonup20 · 02/10/2020 23:41

Put somewhere safe (best to get in the habit straight away because before you know it they can move!) eg cot or playpen.

I'm a ftm with a 5 month old baby. At your babies are, I left her in her Moses basket after a feed, made sure her bum was dry, and went for a shower. She squeaked, had the hump but I was 20 minutes at the most and sometimes even fell asleep while I was in there. I even used to think "she's crying, shes still alive!" . Colic and new born clinginess is brutal, have your shower.
