Hi
Please could you tell me what awake time your 8 month old has between naps? Thank you xx

Mine is now coming up to 10mo but at 8 months he was having quite short awake times 1.5-2.5hs. I remember being concerned it should be 2-3-4 through the day and there was clearly no way he could manage that!

Dexy2020 · 01/10/2020 10:24

@Goostacean thank you for your reply! ❤️My little one seems to be around 2.5hours after a short nap and 3 after a long one, wasn't sure whether this sounded about right or not xx

My DD is 7.5 months and has been doing well on about 2.5 hours awake time, a little less if it was a poor nap.

However the last 3 days I've stretched her slightly to 3 hours after first nap and she's had a much longer second nap. She's then made it to bedtime fine, so we might be moving more towards the 2-3-4 windows.

@PeacefulInTheDeep arrr that sounds great!! 😍Were stuck in a 04:30/05:00am wake up and 3 pretty short naps at the moment xxxx

Oooof @Dexy2020 that sounds really tough! Hang in there.

Could your little one be overtired? We really struggled with overtiredness around the 4 month regression when DD took to napping for no longer than 30 minutes at a time. We found that making sure there was at least one long nap each day helped our DD to catch up on her sleep and get back on track. For us, that meant a good couple of hours napping in the carrier each day.

Dexy2020 · 01/10/2020 19:35

@PeacefulInTheDeep I'm not sure, I've tried putting him down for a nap in a shorter awake window but it just doesn't work, if he has x2 short naps (usually 35 mins each) I usually make sure his last one is in the car so he gets about 75 mins to make up for the day so he's not too overtired when it comes to bedtime xx

By 8 months dd was down to 1 nap. Wake at 8am, nap at 1pm, wake at 2pm and bedtime at 7:30.

Dexy2020 · 01/10/2020 19:46

@Findahouse21 oh wow! How was she during her awake time? Mine gets grouchy when he's coming up to his sleep bless him ❤️ looking forward to when he can manage being awake a bit longer xx

My DS has always been a cat napper, hardly ever sleeps for longer than 30min Sad. He still wakes a couple of times in the night, ie midnight and 5am. He’ll luckily go back to sleep 5am-8am (does this count as a nap?!) then is awake til 10-11am. Naps for maybe 45min, awake again til 2ish, another nap then bed at 7pm. I think overall he’s getting the right amount of sleep.

Dexy2020 · 01/10/2020 19:57

@LolaLollypop awww that's great he will go back to sleep till 8am 🥰, feel your pain with the catnapping tho!! My little boy averages around 12.5 hours a day so a bit on the lower side of what he should be getting maybe Xx

Wow, interesting to see how others are doing! Mine (almost 10mo) sleeps roughly 10am-12pm or even 12.30pm. Then from roughly 2.30-3pm for another 2hs. Plus 8-7 with one or two wake ups (he was vaguely going through the night but stopped a couple of days ago, annoyingly). I think he sleeps a lot compared to others, from what I’ve heard.

Rubyroost · 01/10/2020 23:24

7months here. Wake 9 nap 12.30/1pm til 2.30/3pm up til 6 and wake at 7. Bed at 10.30pm

Dexy2020 · 02/10/2020 06:25

@Goostacean oooo how lovely hope you enjoy some downtime while little one is sleeping ❤️
@Rubyroost aww seems a lot of people are down to 2 naps but around the 7/8 month mark

Up, showered and dressed for 5am this morning while DP got up with DS at 04:30am 😴😴lol xx

Do you not consider a 4.30am wake up as a night waking and attempt to resettle/sleep train/shift the overall schedule? What time is baby going to bed? Because say 10hs at night plus say 2hs total during the day, including 2 x 35 min naps, seems very little for a baby that age, to me.

Dexy2020 · 02/10/2020 07:04

@Goostacean oh yes I've tried everything and he just won't resettle he's up for the day, if I put him to bed later he just wakes up earlier for some strange reason (generally in bed for 18:30/19:00) he has x3 naps, if he's had x2 short 35 minute ones I always make sure we get out in the car as he will always sleep in there, I make sure he gets at least 75 minutes, he gets about 2.5 hours daytime sleep. We did sleep train that's how he now sleeps from bedtime till get up time with no wake ups, he's just an earlybird it seems xx

Little man was awake 1.30am, 4.30am and 6.30am last night Sad Any other mums of 7/8 months old still struggling on with numerous night feeds? I feel like my DS has regressed back to being a newborn!! He’s EBF but doing ok with weaning (mainly purées).

Rubyroost · 02/10/2020 10:32

@Dexy2020 I didn't really have three ever with either of my too. My current baby went from napping all the time to two naps

Rubyroost · 02/10/2020 10:32

But then both have napped for 3 hours in total over the two naps, rather than silly little naps

Rubyroost · 02/10/2020 10:35

@Lolalollypop my little newly 7 month old has had three good nights where he has sleep 10.30 until 6, 10.30 until 4 and then 10.30 with a wake up at 12 and then til 9am.

I'm thinking woohhoo. Then last night he was up at 12.15, then 2.30 and I fell asleep with him b feeding and didn't put him back in cot til 4.20pm. He was really unsettled and fussy last night. God knows why, babies!!
