Am I losing it?

I feel really terrible. I shouted at my baby who is a year old. She's got a cold and has clung to me for a week. I was holding her and trying to comfort her and nothing was good enough. In the end I was so tired of trying to look after her that I lost my temper and shouted. Then I put her in her cot and she cried even more. Eventually I gave her calpol and it seemed to knock her out. She's asleep now. I'm so sad that I lost my temper and I hope she's ok.

She will be fine.
We aren't all perfect all of the time - a scan of the threads here show that most of us struggle at some point if not all of the time.

You did the right thing - when it's too much put your baby somewhere safe and then leave the room.

Of course you are sad you lost your temper because you love your DD so much. And when she wakes up from her nap she wont remember that you shouted at her (as long as it is not happening regularly). Clingy babies are such hard work. Is there someone who could come and step in for an hour or two so you can clear your head with a brisk walk/swim/soak in bath?

Thanks for your support. I'm sure she'll be ok. And I can't wait for my little girl to bounce back. But in the meantime I'll pull myself together and be nice mum again. I think she's been in pain from all the congestion and it's understandable that nothing (but medicine) makes it better.

Bless you! She'll be fine. And you'll probably do it again at some point, you're only human. I remember so well when my dd was tiny thinking 'i'll NEVER shout at you' and of course, I have and I do. Don't be so hard on yourself.
