How much is too much?

Hello

Just wondering how much screen time your child gets, that’s including smart phones, tablets, ipads and tv.

My 7 year old gets around 2 hours on a weekday, more at the weekend. Not all in one go though. For eg - an hour on the tele then a few hours later an hour playing games on smart phone.

Sometimes I think it’s too much screen time or am I actually worrying for nothing? I know others spend a lot longer, I personally used to watch a lot of tv as a kid, more than she does now.

My 7 year old has no TV during the week. She goes outside, play inside, go to clubs, reads, helps me with dinner... At the week end she watches about 2h in the morning and then perhaps later in the afternoon if we're not doing anything, or if we're just back from a long walk. We have a tablet which she uses when on holidays.

She spends time on the computer for school work everyday (about 15 to 30min).

I don't really watch TV and if it was just me I probably wouldn't even own one. I think it depends of what works for your family.

I have a 7 year old niece and 6 year old nephew (siblings). They don’t have tablets or consoles. They watch tv for a while most days, maybe 30 minutes or so, but apart from that they seem to spend a lot of time just playing with each other.

I think that sounds fine . I have a 7 year old and before coronavirus she would only have iPad at the weekend , maybe an hour sat and an hour Sunday. Tv maybe 30 mins a day .
But now she has no after school activities, no play dates and all indoor activities closed so now she gets one hour iPad every day after school and tv whenever she wants ( she doesn’t really watch tv so generally just watches if her little sister is watching something )
The weekends definitely more. Probably about 2/3 hours spread over the day

My DC (9 & 4) get 30 min tablet time on a school day, and that's about it - but they come home at 6 pm, have a bite to eat, homework, then getting ready for bed, there realistically isn't time for more than that. At the weekend, tablet time is 1 hour, but they will often watch films, play games etc as well.

Great! I feel better, I knew I wasn’t letting my daughter overly indulge anyway but it’s good to know what other kids’ schedules are like x
