Don't feel like I'm 'myself' when with my children

Was wondering if other mothers (or fathers) don't feel like they can be fully themselves around their children. We play a role - the role of mother (or father - they feel it too). The world is a stage, etc...

I'm a mother, so I try to be the cultural norm for that role in order to support my children in this culture in this current time.

Does anyone else feel like this, that you are gagging your own potential? My fault for not prioritising myself I'm sure.

Hmmm... not sure im with you there OP. I'm not "playing a role" as mum anymore than I'm "playing a role" at work, or when i do the laundry. It's a job, more than a performance.

Is your issue that you've got things you'd rather be doing than taking care of your kids? Drinking/going out etc? Because i think that's pretty normal. Or do you mean stuff like swearing?

What you've said about gagging your potential is pretty worrying. Do you work?
